Dove launched a new Digital Animated Billboard #MyBeautyMySay

Whether it’s commenting on her hairstyle as she does a difficult flip or suggesting that she buy a better sports bra as she sends a 123mph serve – sexism in sports has become far too common place over the past few weeks. Media commentary that belittles a female athlete’s appearance or objectifies her is becoming a serious issue not only for female athletes, but the next generation of girls.

To challenge this sexist commentary, Dove launched a new digital animated billboard in Times Square (46th & Broadway) to empower everyone to hold the media accountable for how they report on female athletes. Too often, media commentary references a woman’s appearance in a way that diminishes her accomplishments and chips away at her confidence and holds her back. Reports indicate that 64% of female athletes featured in the media are shown in passive poses (i.e. glamour and sexualized shots) while men are portrayed in action-oriented imagery emphasizing their skill in their respective sport athletic forms.

    Billboard content:

o   Features real key phrases pulled from the media regularly; each key phrase is attributed to the news channel it came from, along with when it was mentioned

o   As the comments appear, viewers will watch female athletes disappear before their eyes as the media comments obscure their bodies symbolizing how we lose sight of the whole person when we focus only on appearance

o   When the media only sees a female athletes looks, we don’t see her at all

In addition to launching in Times Square, the animated billboards are live throughout the summer in Los Angeles and Toronto.

@MinxNailsDotCom Makes National Flag Nails At London Olympics

I’ve got to admit, the Queen at the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympics was pretty epic. Especially with Daniel Craig playing James Bond and of course Mr. Bean’s musical spectacle. But beyond all the sporty athleticism of the world, let’s talk about Olympic beauty!

Of course Minx Nails is jumping on the gun to create a load of amazing nail designs. To celebrate Minx at the Olympic Village, Minx co-founders Janice Jordan and Dawn Lynch-Goodwin have launched The Tasting Room, an online venue where nail professionals and nail lovers can purchase exclusive Minx designs that are not available anywhere else. Talk about an exclusive!

Check out Rebecca Adlington wearing Minx UK flag nails for the 400 m final!

There’s way more girls getting minxed as the games progress. Check out the photos on the Facebook group page.

The Tasting Room showcases exclusive collaborations created by the Minx co-founders, Dawn Lynch-Goodwin and Janice Jordan, who decided to go for the GOLD with the first collection inspired by all things Olympic! Of course I’m rooting for North America. Who are you reppin’?

Tune in for more London Olympics fun!

    @SchonMagazine Pre-Olympic Fashion Party

The 2012 Olympic Games will be held in London town this year, and it looks like everyone is cruising in to town on some really high technology. The German embassy kicked off the festivities with a gorgeous party on their Deutschland boat.

Tonight’s lavish party was hosted by Schon Magazine‘s Editor-in-Chief, Raoul Keil. PS: he’s wearing a Hugo Boss suit. I can’t believe it!

And look who I found! Toronto’s own fashion beau Yossi Fisher looking cute as ever in that yellow bow-tie.

Although there’s definitely a lot of competition going on with the International attendants tonight. Check out these punk kids!

There was also a cute photo booth posted by Coco Photobooths with lots of hats and other accessories to play with. Here are some of my fave looks of the night.

Oh, and let’s not forget the very German food served. Can we say sausage and cheese? YUM!

Stay tuned for more Olympics madness by yours truly, in London!

    Xoxo, @missamandachen

    Games On!

The Olympic games have started and Vancouver is the place to be!  There is so much buzz and inspiration around Olympic fashion!  As you all know, Team Canada is outfitted by the Hudson Bay Company via a $100 million contract from 2006-2012.

    TEAM CANADA

and Team USA is outfitted by Ralph Lauren.

Coca-Cola is one of the first major marketers to embark on a zero-waste, carbon-neutral sponsorship of an event as complex as the Olympic Games. Kudos to corporates taking a global stance!

VANOC also created an award, the “Sustainability Star” to recognize partners for their efforts. Coca-Cola was one of the first corporate sponsors to receive the award. Ah-mazing!
