    Stumble into @Bare_Burger for Brunch

Last weekend, I woke up and stumbled into Bare Burger. We usually go to this place for their healthy fries/onion ring combo, delicious sliders and a slew of condiments. I love sauce did you know that?  But this organic burger joint has brunch too!  Who knew!  I was happily surprised and got the chicken and waffles platter with banana fritters and sweet potato fries. It came with paprika butter! YUM.

Tai had a really yummy burger too that he could customize everything from meat, bun to toppings and ‘done-ness’ of the meat. IMG_6008

    Look!  Still sleepy 🙂

    Totally Scrumptious PlanB Tapas

Plan B is dedicated to the union of contemporary Northern Spanish Tapas and an innovative beverage program both influenced by Barcelona and the Basque region.  The cuisine, the culture, the sensibility, and independent spirit of both regions desire to both honor the past and begin their future.   Plan B creates food and beverage menus in tandem, with the operation’s concept reflected both in dishes and in signature drinks, wine lists and beer selections.Plan B puts an eccentric and creative take on an urban tapas bar, culinary inspiration comes from seasonal local greenmarket ingredients and exotic imported Spanish items to comprise simple and flavorful dishes that embrace the ancient Roman philosophy of the 5th Quarter, or “Quinto Quarto”.

I was so excited to go to the media tasting of PlanB. Their menu boasts of exotic dishes like python sausage, rabbit meatballs and bull testicles, I had no idea what to expect. Created by Hemant Phul (Masala Times and Earth Nightclub), this little Nolita gem is totally exciting and exotic. The carefully selected cocktails like sherries, Spanish/French wines and craft beers make Plan B a place to get more than a meal but a tasty adventure! This cocktail menu has been created by Ivy Mix of Clover Club and Tess Sawyer of Plan B.

The Basque and Catalan tapas are awesome. I don’t claim to be an expert on Spanish Cuisine but I definitely know what delicious tastes like.  The downtown vibe of this restaurant comes in all aspect from the decor, food, drink and music. Started with this polenta and cherry to cleanse your palate.

Everything is scrumptious and here are my recommendations:
Potato Croquttes – Never has yukon gold, creme fraiche, salmon roe come together in a better way. This was by far my favorite experience

Goat Cheese Croquettes – A simple and delicious combo
Mushrooms – seasonal and wild – YUM the best texture ever and Tai’s favorite

Paella Shooters – mussel, shrimp, clam, chorizo, white wine, shellfish broth

Asparagus – Not my favorite but still yummy
Octopus – The best 4 hour slow cooked texture, like a pillow

Pic Ear – Crispy and perfect on a savory biscuit

Rabbit meatballs – My first rabbit taste! The sauce is perfect
Shrimp heads – I LOVE this, ask for extra bread

Duck heart souffle – Beautiful presentation and texture and taste deliciously balanced

Flan – Best I ever had, perfect consistency and like caramel candy

Hibiscus & Cynar Ice cream – Eat this as fast as you can!

You have to go or I’ll take you  if you ever visit NYC!

Thanks to my sweet husband for coming with me!

    Niu Noodle House

Niu (chinese for cow/beef) Noodle is a newbie in West Village that is causing quite a stir! With only a handful of Asian places to eat, Niu stands out because of the creative fusion, amazing decor, cool bowls and chopsticks with the Niu cow holder and of course delicious food and drinks.

Fresh daily made noodles and dimsum is just the beginning. The broth is rich and multi layered and for ramen lovers who want to try something besides Ippudo? Niu could be your new favorite spot.   The dim sum crystal white bunnies come on their own cucumber pedastal and rival Red Farm’s Pac Man Dumplings at a fraction of the cost and none of the attitude.

Save room for desert, the crepe cake and shaved ice mango is to die for.

    Art Tuesdays: Edible Art

very since my girl Roz posted those Rice Krispie monsters dipped in chocolate, I have been thinking about edible art.

Also called Food Art, there is so much creativity and joy behind this craft. I never ever was a picky eater as a child and I love when food looks fun and tastes yummy! Make your lunch artistic today and you satisfy both your mind and your stomach.
Here are some ideas to get you started.

Yum! Let’s open a restaurant like this called Play with your Food.  I would absolutely love that.

Look at the things you look at everyday and try to see something else.

    Gourmet Burger Co.

GBC, not George Brown College… the other one! The Gourmet Burger Co. is flipping up some pretty yummy burgers on Parliment & Carlton St.  I hit up this spot with my crazy friend last week to check it out to see what all the fuss was about – It’s just a burger right?  Apparently, this is the first spot in Toronto to serve up what they call and Aussie Burger.  Owner John Ward and chef Richard Delpratt is hitting Cabbagetown by storm with GBC’s burgers – truly gourmet, truly addictive. Even if you don’t care about the sweet potato fries, you should at least go by to hello to the sexy chef in there. 😉

Aussie burger ($8.50) starts off promisingly enough – 6 ounces of aged, lean never-frozen house-ground Canadian beef topped with regulation bacon, lettuce, tomato, Hellman’s mayo and gooey cheddar cheese – but veers into previously uncharted territory with the addition of a fried egg, grilled pineapple and beets.

The Works ($6.95) that keeps the banquet basics of the Aussie but trades the egg, pineapple and beets for more familiar sautéed button mushrooms and caramelized balsamic onions.

    482 Parliament St. Toronto, ON, ON M4X 1P2 – (647) 344-5103
    Open Daily 11:30am-9pm

    Woah.

Better try it to believe it.
