Fashion SCOOP NYC’s Fashion Week Kick-Off

I did something I never done before – I went to an event and just enjoyed myself.  Since the store was infiltrated with bloggers armed with Canons and Nikons – I took my time to talk and celebrate fashion with Tucked, Grungy and some new friends.  ScoopNYC is the lick!  I wore my 2BD necklace which was quite a hit and I brought my pal Jacob.

People are afraid of Jacob and Jacob is afraid of people. >_<

So here is how the txt messages went:

    Y: Can I bring Jacob

    J: Yeah I guess

    Y: How is it

    J: Picking up

So then I show up with my dog… and Justin is like… oh that’s Jacob?  Lol.. And then I went to go fetch 2 lime Belvedere gimlets

    Super Long Tongue

One of the things that really stood out to me this week during Social Media seminars is what one of the panelists said: Well isn’t fashion just one big insecurity. That really got me thinking about the values people place on fashion and the spectrum goes from ‘matters a lot’ to ‘it doesnt matter’. Of course in a room of NY’s finest, everyone skews to the left – and everything matters a lot to them from head to toe. The one thing I really noticed what how nervous Jacob was. Usually dogs pick up the energy of those around him. If that was true, we were in a room with the best dressed anxious folks. Nevertheless, the party was a great turnout and the Belvedere drinks lubricated the conversations.

    Service Dog

Service Dogs get to sit front row on the plane 🙂

Jackson is a 6 year old Chocolate Labrador. He was rescued from the vets office when he was young by one of the ABS Service dog trainers.  In 2005 our trainers brother, Dr. David Carr, a local pediatrician in Orlando, Fl. became ill.  He was misdiagnosed with MS, and had a rapid onset of an unknown disease.  He slowly deteriorated, lost fifty pounds, lost his vision, mobility and ability to eat.

On his “death bed” at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fl the doctors discovered that it was Pernicious Anemia, Vitamin B12 deficiency.  Dr. Carr was told by his doctors that he would probably gain his sight back, but he would not walk again.  Our trainer, that had Jackson, trained day and night to shape Jackson to be a balance dog for Dr. Carr.  Jackson assisted Dr. Carr in his rehabilitation, and helped him learn to walk again.  Jackson would sense when Dr. Carr was losing his balance, and he would support him.  Jackson is now enjoying his retirement, and teaching all of the new service dog puppies we bring along.  He is a true working dog!

Remember, service dogs comes in all shapes and sizes… Does a lot of different things to help people.

Mighty Dog Toy: Lenny the Leopard

Jacob loves toys more than he loves treats! I was so happy when I was walking East Village and found this Mighty Dog toys for him.

They are tough toys made especially with big dogs in mind.  You should ask your local pet supply store for them by name. If you can’t find them you can always get them online here.  The store I was at had the Linus the Lion, Lenny the Leopard and Wilburr McPaw the Polar Bear. Jacob chose Lenny.

It’s so cute watching him play with the toy and pretend that it is his baby and carry it around when we go for walks. Right when I grab his leash to go outside, he runs to get Lenny to take him along. Adorable! As you can see, these toys are big for big dogs – the real chewers. But if you have a small dog that loves toys – they have a Jr collection for smaller mouths.

    Check them out on Facebook

Mighty Toy Construction: Durability is created for each toy with multiple layers of flexible materials. Compared to other toys, Mighty Dog Toys have no hard edges. The result is that these toys do not promote chewing – great when you’re trying to discourage chewing habits. These toys may seem plush on the outside, but all the durability features are internal making these toys soft, yet MIGHTY strong. These toys are machine washable (air dry) and float.
