    KIBIBI SPRINGS –  www.TheLivingWellSuite.com

I earned a B.A. from the University of California at Santa Barbara in Communication studies.  Studying in Santa Barbara was my first introduction to the importance of work/life balance.  I earned one of the best educations in communication theory and how to enjoy life and the beach while doing it. 🙂

Since graduating, I have enjoyed a successful 15 year career in marketing communications with top 10 public relations agency Edelman Public Relations, national education non-profit The Milken Family Foundation,  Fortune 500 companies Procter & Gamble Beauty and The Virgin Entertainment Group as well as entrepreneurial experience as a freelance marketing consultant.

Currently I’m pursuing a master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology with a specialization in consumer psychology which I intend to use to continue my career in the management consulting industry.

    City you live in:
    Los Angeles, CA

If there was a theme song in your life, it would be:

Love this question!  This changes frequently because I love music, but right now I would pick Jason Mraz’ Live High.  The lyrics speak to living a life of high integrity and I’m all about that.

What is the best advice you can give to a women who wants that corner office?

Know yourself and get it on your own terms.  In many cases, that corner office can come at the cost of other things in your life.  Before you get to what you envision as the pinnacle to success in your industry, know what you’re going to be asked to sacrifice to make that a reality and be honest with yourself about what you are willing to give to get it.  If the outline for the job you have your eye on requires too much sacrifice for you personally, create that position on your own terms.  Success has many definitions and the ones we’re used to chasing are being reinvented everyday on individually unique terms.

What is the your favorite quote that keeps you motivated?

Oh man, I’m a quote person. I eat and drink them so it’s hard to pick just one.  I’m very partial to quotes from sports coaches so I’ll pick this one:

“The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.” – Vince Lombardi

What do you think is the the key to being a successful woman in the marketing industry?

The marketing industry offers a breadth of options in which you can focus your interests.  This makes it a great career choice for someone who’s curious about many different things.  At the same time it can be very easy to get lost in the options available to you.  My advice from this vantage point in my career is explore your options but aim to direct them towards a specialization, something that you are known for and do better than anyone else in your field.

    Michael Levine

    Wilshire Fine Arts Theater

Since coming to LA, I have had a lot of time to find out what’s really good here. Some of the greatest resources have been Craigslist, LAist and Yelp.com. I found out about this seminar and hopped on the 720 Wilshire and got there in less than 30 mins.

I went to check out the screening of “Sympathy for the Devil” – a documentary of Michael Levine talks at the California State Prison (population 2.1 million) and join them for the Q&A afterwards. The Levine Communcations Office is one of America’s most prominent PR firms. Celeb client lists and always in the company of the ‘best of’s. You can also sign up for his insider e-zine that is designed to influence influencers here. Michael’s story is interesting – he has no formal education, an alcoholic mother and a self taught success story.

What do you all successful people have in common? Michael Levine talks about the 3 magic O’s

    1. OBSESSION: Positive addiction to your goals, act if your life depends on it (it does!)
Decide -> What do you want the most and what are you willing to give up to get it?

    2. OPTIMISM: Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier
This is true – 4 motivated workers is more efficient than 20 unmotived ones

    3. OBLIGATION: A sense of responsibility, accountability and non-flakeyness to oneself
Whether you believe you can or cannot, you are both right.

This game is not fair, this game is not easy but this game is winnable.

    More on Michael Levine.

Michael Levine & me, happily inspired!
