NYFW: Korto Momolu SS20 show for Women Grow
Yesterday designer & Project Runway Allstar, Korto Momolu, showed her SS20 collection at Pier59 Studios during New York Fashion Week and fused the worlds of cannabis and fashion for the first time ever on stage.
The show was held in partnership with Women Grow, an organization dually designed to obliterate the lingering stigma affiliated with cannabis and to intentionally cultivate female leadership within the cannabis industry.
Momolu showed 26 looks predominantly created with eco-friendly, sustainable hemp-based fabrications: hemp, linen, jute and cork. Plus 2 models carried vape pens on the runway.
Most people have a notion in their mind pertaining to cannabis – forged largely from pop culture references from Woodstock to 90s stoner movies. Women Grow aims to replace them and looks at the cannabis boom as THE solution to health, wellness, sustainability and environmental needs – this is the future of fashion.

“Rebirth, Revive, Relive,” are the three words that Korto Momolu used to describe this seasons collection just minutes before the show started. Korto a “Project Runway” All-Star, two time runner-up, and voted “fan favorite” of the Bravo/Lifetime hit show fifth season as first runner-up, debuted her 2015 Spring/Summer Collection September 8th at the Designer’s Loft at Studio 450 presented by Shea Moisture.
Highlighted as one of the top five designers to watch by New York Magazine, Korto has been featured in Southern Living magazine, People magazine, Essence magazine, Kouture magazine, Los Angeles Times, and Washingtonian magazine.
Backstage light pinks were being added to the cheeks and coconut oil spread through the locks of all the models for a very natural, breath of fresh air feel. Flowy prints, light fabrics, and a particularly airy feel is what this line was all about, not to mention the absolutely stunning accessories to pull together each look.
