    @PearlWedCake Vodka by @PearlVodka

You don’t need a fancy white gown and a handsome groom to enjoy the new Pearl Wedding Cake Vodka!

I was really excited when I received the samples that Pearl Vodka had sent me. And before I started creating exotic cocktails, I decided to take a swig of it straight, so that I could experience the full flavor.

It was very tasty, with a wonderful flavor that wasn’t too sweet. I didn’t even need a mixer (and this is coming from someone who doesn’t care for straight liquor)! It reminded me of the smooth Panna Cotta gelato I once had, or Cold Stone Creamery’s Cake Batter ice cream, both of which I loved!

Here are some recipes from their website that look delicious (if I ever wanted to mix it with anything!).

    Something Old, Something New

    1¼ oz. Pearl Wedding Cake
    ½ oz. Domaine de Canton
    2 oz. Fresh Sour Mix
Combine ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into glass with ice. Garnish with a lemon twist and serve.

    Wedding Cake Rosé Sparkler

    1¼ oz. Pearl Wedding Cake
    ¼ oz. Arrow Pomegranate Liqueur
    4½ oz. Prosecco
Chill glass. Pour ingredients as listed. Garnish with a fresh strawberry and serve.
*Note: all ingredients should be stored refrigerated to ensure the cocktail is served well chilled.

    The Toast

    1½ oz. Pearl Wedding Cake
    ½ oz. Rum
    ½ oz. Fresh Sour Mix
    ½ oz. Pineapple Juice
    Top w/ 1 oz. Prosecco
Chill glass. Combine ingredients 1-4 in shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into glass. Top with 1 oz. Prosecco. Garnish with lime foam and coconut flakes and serve.

    Love Potion #9

    1¼ oz. Pearl Wedding Cake
    ½ oz. Gin
    2 oz. Fresh Sour Mix
    ¼ oz. Monin Pomegranate
Combine ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into glass with ice. Garnish with a lemon twist and serve.

    Enjoy!

Winter Glamour Party at J. Sisters Salon

Last Wednesday, Social Exposure Media kicked off 2012 with the Winter Glamour Party at the famed J. Sisters Salon inside the Limelight Marketplace. Guests were invited to experience spa-like treatments, hair-styling, makeup touch-ups, baked goods, sponsored cocktails and VIP gift bags.

The Winter Glamour Party is a part of the “Social Exposure Intimate Series,” which focuses on bringing people together to talk shop in unique environments while experiencing luxurious services, products and goods that are specifically targeted to their demographic.

The well-attended event was filled with beautiful faces, many of whom took the opportunity to add some glam with mini-makeovers.

Sweet treats were all around. The cupcakes tasted like marshmallows!

Next, I tried a Hypnotiq cocktail.

The red bottle is the newest Hypnotiq flavor, Harmonie. It has a great berry flavor and goes well with Champagne.

Kansas Clean Distilled Whiskey is a perfect for the new whiskey drinker, with it’s extra smooth and mild taste.

Other sponsors of the night include:

    @Absolutvodka_us Thirsty Thursday

As the weather warms up and summer nights make you giggle uncontrollably… I have recently decided to mentally prepare for my life as a full time wifey… with the entertaining skills to match. As you know, these skills don’t come overnight nor is there a Youtube tutorial on how-to-be. It take a lifetime of being spoiled, going to endless events to hone in on the ‘art of entertaining’.

First up, how to shake up a mean cocktail. I envision my life with mi amour to be filled with dinner parties, hosting international guests and evenings filled with clinking, laughing and happy murmurs. Umm.. maybe not so soon but I guess we can start with learning a few fancy recipes.

    Ingredients

    • 2 Parts ABSOLUT BERRI AÇAÍ
    • 1 Part Simple Syrup
    • 1 Part Lemon Juice
    • 4 Whole Blueberry
    • 1 Wedge Lemon

    How to mix this cocktail

Add all ingredients into a shaker. Shake and strain into a rocks glass. Garnish with lemon and
    blueberry.

barchef… A New Movement in Mixology

“A cocktail is an example of one’s passion”- Frankie Solarik

Last night I had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing Brent Vanderveen and Frankie Solarik; owners of the stylish and sophisticated barchef. Located on vibrant Queen Street West at the corner of Queen and Augusta; it is the only cocktail-focused bar in Toronto! barchef came on the scene on December 9th, 2008 with cocktails from $8 to $45 and there all totally worth it!!

Visually, this place is a dream! You step into a dark room that’s brought to life by candle light, and the scent of fresh herbs, spices and caramelised fruits immediately captures you. The decor is simple, clean and classic and you can’t help but notice the colorful glow of the 50lb block of ice that’s sits atop the bar, as well as the mise en place of fresh ingredients. There’s an energy in the room that is indescribable… Frankie greets us with a smile, as he places a simple and elegant menu in front of us; “Time for some cocktails ladies?”

There are four categories to this exciting menu: Recession, Sweet, Sour and Molecular.

The Recession page, an “ode to a classic style, with a barchef twist” features a variety of $8 cocktails, and a disclaimer that warns: “Drinks back in the day were hardcore so please bear in mind that you will taste the booze”. This page rocks!!

The Sweet page features a number of sweet and tantalizing $12 cocktails as well as two award winning cocktails. The Rosemary Orange, a popular cocktail that consists of vanilla infused lemoncello, Amaro, fresh squeezed orange, lemon, muddled rosemary, rosemary syrup, rosemary, vanilla, and a cinnamon sugar rim! Another popular cocktail is the Barchef Rocket- Toronto’s Official Cocktail! This cocktail consists of Smirnoff raspberry, curacao, fresh lime, lemoncello, pomegranate aril, and an effervescent citric sugar rim! Mmm mmm GOOD! Now that’s how you put on for your city!

The Lavender Cosmo, which by the way is my new favourite cocktail can be found on the Sour page. It features fresh muddled cranberry, lavender, vodka, navan, fresh lime, cranberry, vanilla, effervescent and a sugar rim. The cocktails on this page will really bring your taste buds to life! With the Lavender Cosmo you first taste the sweet crunchy sugar on the rim, followed by the smooth and delicate vanilla foam, and lastly the cool refreshing taste of the cranberry, vodka and fresh lime! This is definitely one for the ladies! Frankie enjoys playing with both taste and texture, and this cocktail is loaded with both!

The cocktail of ALL cocktails can be found on the Molecular page; The Vanilla Hickory Smoked Manhattan. If the name doesn’t get you, then the preparation will! This cocktail features vanilla and hickory smoked Crown Royal Extra Rare, fresh lemon, in-house cherry-vanilla bitter, hickory smoked syrup, and vanilla cognac. It’s $45 and is definitely worth every single penny! It’s sophisticated, savoury and smooth. This drink is for anyone that appreciates the finer things in life…

Interviewing Brent and Frankie was truly an amazing and inspiring experience. Frankie’s passion for cocktails is reflected in the menu, and is demonstrated in his cocktail preparation. His understanding of taste and how to pair ingredients to make unique and tasty cocktails is remarkable! He makes it a fun and interactive experience, answering questions from the mesmerized crowd all the while mixing, shaking, and even cooking! People whip out their cameras every time he makes the Vanilla Hickory Smoked Manhattan; there’s smoke, there’s fire, it’s quite a show! When asked how he feels about this cocktail he responds, “it’s the epitome of what I can do as far as respecting the subtlety and complexity of a spirit”. Spoken like a true mixologist. Brent speaks passionately about the cocktail movement, about wanting to introduce Toronto to the cocktail culture. Brent wants to show Toronto something new and exciting, and I they’re doing just that!

Visit their website www.barcheftoronto.com for hours of operations and more info!

In the words of Brent Vanderveen, “Don’t do the regular, DO Barchef!”

If you’re looking for something fun and new to do tonight, DO Barchef! Every Thursday is Absinthe Thursdays!!

“We don’t want to market ourselves as untouchable. We want everyone to come to barchef, enjoy a few cocktails with a good crowd, and have a good time”– Brent Vanderveen.

    xoxo

    Parlour Launch

Where else can you meet fellow bloggers, a clothing designer & a female band member all in one room? The recently transformed Ossington strip was where I spent a good portion of last night where I got together with some of Toronto’s trendiest for the cocktail launch of Parlour Salon. Parlour is a mod-styled, socially consious hair salon catering to the spectrum of personalities! Don’t be confused by this description; the salon itself is lined in ceiling to floor WHITE and is classically vintage in design but I was graced with the some of the trendiest Torontonian artistics that I have met in a while!!!
    Here’s a bit of what I got to see…

    She plays in a band

    He has full-sleeve tatts!!!

She designed her own skirt… LOVE LOVE LOVE!

The band is called ‘The Caviliers’

They just started their own fashion blog… stay tuned

As an ex-hairstylist I can say… this photo doesn’t do justice to how amazing her hair colour is!!!

Kudos to Parlour for an awesome launch, be sure to check them out and see the artistry that is Parlour!!!
