Create Birds in Watercolor, Collage, and Ink with Geninne’s Art

Santa Fe nature artist Geninne D Zlatkis is well-known on Instagram and Pinterest for her charming paintings and collages of birds. In GENINNE’S ART: BIRDS IN WATERCOLOR, COLLAGE, AND INK (Quarry Books, June 12, 2018, $24.99 US), for the first time, she offers her fans a field guide to her art process. A skilled nature photographer as well as artist, Geninne begins her work in the field by observing and photographing birds and flowering plants. Then takes her observations back to the studio, where she turns them into works on paper.

Readers will discover, step-by-step, how Geninne selects her materials and then creates her personal imagery. What makes Geninne’s work so successful is her imaginative and colorful interpretation of the birds she has observed so closely. Her work is approachable, and her fans will love to see how she does it, so that they can try it too.

To get them started, the book will include a selection of collage papers, as well as two Geninne prints that can be removed from the book. Geninne brings a wide and ready audience with her to this project.

Geninne D Zlatkis is an artist living in sunny Santa Fe, New Mexico, with her husband, two teenage sons, and a cute red-heeler-mix named Zorro. Geninne’s art draws inspiration from the natural world. Focused on birds and native plants, her work is a charming blend of close observation with colorful imagination in watercolor, collage, ink, and pencil. She designs a home decor line for Hallmark, an avian calendar and gift line for Galison, and has published one book, Making an Impression, with Lark, in 2012. Geninne’s huge fan base follows her art activities and nature photography on her blog, Geninne’s Art Blog.

Parenting in a PC World-New Book By Respected Child Psychologist

From helicopter parenting to free-range parenting and everything in between, it’s no secret theparenting landscape is forever shifting. With so much conflicting information as to what works and what doesn’t, it’s easy for parents to lose sight of how to be an effective leader in their family. The pressure to remain politically correct adds even more confusion to the mix: spanking, once a common practice parents swore by, just became illegal in France, making it the 52nd country to ban the corporal punishment at home.

So what are parents to do? How can they cut through the noise to determine the most effective way to raise well-adjusted, intelligent children?

Enter: Child advocate, educator and psychological therapist Domenick J. Maglio, PhD., who answers these questions and more with his latest book, In-Charge Parenting: In a P.C. Nation. Dr. Maglio utilizes his over 45-year career working with kids, as well as his own experience raising four successful children and eleven grandchildren, to share with parents everywhere the most impactful ways to instill critical moral values in their kids.

A sometimes controversial, yet powerful guide to successful parenting, In-Charge Parenting provides sound advice on how parents can take back their power and raise thoughtful global citizens. Topics and themes explored in In-Charge Parenting include:

  • How being a parent is a sacred duty that requires them to teach the child to survive without them and be productive members of society.
  • That parents who let their child dictate to them gives the child a distorted vision of reality. It is a parent’s obligation to be in charge and treat their child accordingly.
  • The importance of giving a child clear, definitive consequences for positive or negative behavior and why it is essential for moral value lessons.
  • A discussion on whether we need to bring back now politically incorrect parenting methods such as moderate spanking.
  • And much more!

About Dr. Domenick Maglio:

How Knowing Yourself Can Help You Navigate Dating, Hookups, and Love

There is a glut of articles out there on love and relationships that ask the same questions: Is my relationship stable? How do I communicate my sexual desires to my partner? How do I develop and maintain a healthy relationship? Everyone’s asking the questions, but no one is giving young women the skills to work out the answers that are right for them. Until now.

Psychology professor Joanne Davila, PhD and co-author Kaycee Lashman give thought-provoking answers to these questions and the scientific data to back those answers up in The Thinking Girl’s Guide to the Right Guy: How Knowing Yourself Can Help You Navigate Dating, Hookups, and Love [The Guilford Press]. Whatever that “healthy relationship” looks like – a drama-free, friends-with-benefits arrangement or a long-lasting, loving commitment – The Thinking Girls Guide to the Right Guy helps girls develop practical skills to become happier with their romantic and sexual partnerships. The book provides and in-depth exploration of relationship dynamics and how girls (and others) can develop and learn the vocabulary of healthy relationships.

Joanne Davila, PhD, is Professor of Psychology at Stony Brook University, a clinical psychologist in private practice, and an internationally known expert on young women’s romantic relationships. She lives in Stony Brook, New York, with her partner.
