Dove Self Esteem Fund

Real Girls, Real Pressure: A National Report on the State of Self-Esteem, commissioned by the Dove® Self-Esteem Fund, reveals that there is a self-esteem crisis in this country that pervades every aspect of a girl’s life including her looks, performance in school and relationships with friends and family members

Seven in ten girls believe they are not good enough or do not measure up in some way, including their looks, performance in school and relationships with friends and family members
62% of all girls feel insecure or not sure of themselves
57% of all girls have a mother who criticizes her own looks
More than half (57%) of all girls say they don’t always tell their parents certain things about them because they don’t want them to think badly of them
The top wish among all girls is for their parents to communicate better with them which includes more frequent and more open conversations as well as discussions about what is happening in their own lives

The Campaign for Real Beauty lives online at www.campaignforrealbeauty.com. The site houses a variety of tools for improving self-esteem in girls. Visitors can make a donation to uniquely ME! (all donations will directly benefit its self-esteem programs) as well as access and share helpful how-to information. The contents include tips for encouraging self-esteem and a “self-check” quiz, articles by leading self-esteem experts, self-esteem discussion boards and a free downloadable self-esteem building mother-daughter workbook “True You.”

Please share your story here and two readers will win “You’re Beautiful Pass It On”” t-shirt and my favorite ““Life Doesn’’t Begin 5 Pounds From Now”” t-shirt by Jessica Weiner.

Home Show

My amazing friend Steve over at Market Place Events invited me to check out the National Home Show this year, 2 months early. I know how much work they put into this and so I had to go check it out. Trade shows and I go way back. I love trade shows, attending them, working at them, all the things you can see and not to mention all the cool people you meet. When I was there yesterday, I ran into my friend Wendy (at Maxwell), my friend Kari, my ex-boyfriend’s brother (ha ha) and of course my friend Steve. The cool thing is that there are always ‘show specials’ and tons of things to buy.

Within 2 minutes of stepping into the Home Show my mom and grandma were both captivated by this super stove cleaning product. It’s British, the demo guy was great at his job and it’s called Astonish. Here is my mom, #1 super consumer – shops without mercy and always on Visa. Hey, she’s my mom what did you expect?

Happy with her first purchase of many more to come

Icon Home Design is a Miami based company that makes outdoor furniture that are all very much my style. They are round, cute, womb like and cozy. These are some of my favorites. This one is perfect for lounging by the pool on a summer day reading a book, playing with a puppy or listening to music. I like.

Since I am a summer baby, I always try to imagine my amazing birthday party week. Something like this would be perfect for a pool side, Miami Vice themed party. Someone get this one for me!

This show is huge so make sure you have a bottle of water, some time and good company with you. While my mom and grandma were looking at teflon pans and miracle honey based moisturizers, I snuck over and checked out the new Toyota Hybrids.

and the designer spaces… This one is Ty Pennington’s kitchen (i think)

then… to my grandma’s favorite part of the show – the Dream Garden!

(more of my favorite Miami sun pods!)

I think my sister would love this…

Checking out the dream gardens, hydra landscaping and all sorts of amazingness.

My mom tells me that her friend in Shanghai has this mini waterfall in his foyer of his mansion except his was cooler because it had Koi swimming around. O_O

I think my mom knows more ballers than I ever will.

Another thing my mom was obsessed with was sharp knives. This one guy demonstrated how amazing his knives were by making this

My mom wasn’t impressed but I was!

Hey! It’s Babo from UglyDolls. Ty bought the vinyl Babo for me last year! And it’s in my living room on the TOP SHELF.

So if you have time this weekend, spend some time with the family and check out the National Home Show 🙂 On til March 1.

Fuze – Love Bottled

Was doing some inspirational research for our upcoming event and found the cutest and most clever ‘stunt marketing’ gig. Simple idea, targeted audience and wham! Straight to my heart.

Somebody get them a bottle! SUCH a cute campaign

CAUGHT! making out in Times Square, NYC

The love story unfolds…
“Miss Green Tea Leaf and Mr. Black Tea Leaf locked eyes at a tea garden in Camelliatown. While being harvested they struck up a conversation and began their romantic courtship later that evening during a drying session. One month later, on a fragrant Spring morning, the city of Camelliatown felt more alive than usual, it was the season of love. Miss Green Tea Leaf was awakened by a knock at her door, only to discover…” (read more)

Jerico Santander

“Art, in our society, has been so perverted that not only has bad art come to be considered good, but even the very perception of what art really is has been lost. In order to be able to speak about the art of our society, it is, therefore, first of all necessary to distinguish art from counterfeit art.” – Tolstoy

Spanish Born illustrator and graphic designer, Jericó Santander, operates in a very particular universe. His folio is a very professional and beautiful at the same time, highlighting his immense talent. What follows is a perfect compromise between technology and creativity, all flavored with a bit of ingenuity into the mix. This gives us access to the world through compositions in 3D graphics constructed and de-constructed.

To me, art is something you can look at, look at and look at. And each time you look at it, you may see something different. It can trigger different thoughts, it can remind you of something and it may even make you feel something. Take you time, take a good look at it. And explore the icebox where your heart use to be. Enjoy.
