Visit Future Digital Home: Dolby Soho

This place reminds me of a date in Shanghai several years ago. There was a pop-up store in Jingan Temple which showcases the latest Samsung digital screen and people waited in line to give it a try.  My date and I were sharing earphones listening to “Charlie Brown” from Coldplay, and it was our turn. We came into one dark tunnel which has the echo wall along the way, and then one room showed up in the end: There was a huge screen in the middle of the room, broadcasting one music video from Gorillaz, one England music brand.  The immerse experience it brings by the TV and sound around have let us fully sink in this huge darkness.

This is one moment I cannot forget about Shanghai. And I found it in new york today.

My friend Danial and I went to Dolby Soho ( 477 Broadway)  yesterday. Dolby is a pop-up two-floor club including experiencing space, open bar, and screening rooms. It is in the heart of midtown Manhattan provide advanced digital imaging and sound system.

The first room we have been to is an open space place with an immersive four wall background showing motion pictures. It showed the videos from ocean waves to spectrum in different depth of the sea. After a while, the aquatic animals show up and gradually became stationary. This is my favorite part.

After that, there is a special drink offered in the open bar mixing expresso and beer together.

The visitors can take one and chat around the bar tables as well as look at the amazing electronic screens.

When you go downstairs, there was a basement full of sound system with a DJ stage, a selfie part, and the “living area”. This has definitely shown the future of TV and home.

The Dolby SoHo experience is open daily from December through March, plus specific Thursdays that are reserved for private soirees or special events.

WHERE: 477 Broadway.

WHEN:  thru March 2019. Daily from noon to 8pm.  Thursdays they close early for special events that are free to RSVP to.

Oreo Beignet: The Best Winter Comfort Food

Yesterday, my friend Emma and I went to an art show of Chinese Watercolor Paintings. After hearing the speakers talking about Taoism for one hour, I became more focused on the drink in my hand, and Emma seemed confused and turned her head to look at me. ” He is talking about the balance between the universe and the individuals, honey. ”  I explained to her. Emma then nodded her head and insisted on finishing listening to the whole speech.

After the show, Emma asked me, do you want to continue our Asian night or taste something American. I said let us make tonight simpler by heavy Western food, please! Emma giggled, and promised to take me to a “super great” American restaurant ” that you can see in sex and the city”.

So here we were in a restaurant in midtown called as ” cafeteria“, which offers amped-up comfort food, but also come with a fancy vibe in a hip Chelsea setting. We ordered the typical set of American comfort food: Cocktail, Burger and Truffle Fries. All of them are fabulous in look and taste. Until I took a break to the bathroom, and everything finished was taken by the waiter, with only a plain table and Emma there.

” Are we going to have our check?” I asked. “Nono, not the moment. ” Emma said, ” Do you want to have some dessert?”

I insisted on order one ” Citrus and fruit”  dish at first but also doubted whether I should take pumpkin pie. ” You are going to have pumpkin on Thanksgiving anyway and I don’t like citrus, ” Emma said, and then we both agreed on try one dish we have not tasted before.

The Fried Oreo Beignet, 4 Pieces, with Mint Icecream and two real mint leaves by the side.

At first, when you looked at the dish, it was just like 4 fried doughs with a spoon of vanilla ice cream by side. And then, when the “dough” is spared by hand, you would find it does not just look as simple as its appearance.

The corner-malt-shop-level thickness made by mashed oreo inside has closely mixed with the fried part outside, and the taste is being mixed by warm temperature from the pastry inside the fried appearance. And else, there was a thin layer of cream inside oreo part, which give the dryness a little moisture.

But this is not the most amazing part. Add one more thing.

When you put the mint ice cream on the top and eat them together, you can feel the chillness of icecream drop down on your tongue, made the oily nature of fried flavor a little more fresh, clean, and led to more aftertastes.

What a Wonderful, comfy winter night! Highly recommend this restaurant.

Free Broadway Shows Come Up Next week!

Still, strive to save money for a ticket of Broadway show? You don’t need to do that anymore, especially in this November and December.

Free Broadway at The Shops at Columbus Circle kicks off this Monday 11/12 at 5 p.m. and features performances by School of Rock, Kinky Boots, Anastasia and Be More Chill. This is the event is the first of a 5-week series and is FREE and open to the public.

Here are the shows coming on Nov. 12!

School of Rock, The Musical

Based on the hit film, this is a hilarious musical that follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band.

Kinky Boots

Kinky Boots tells the uplifting and heartwarming tale of Charlie Price, a young man reluctantly taking over his family’s struggling shoe factory and looking for a fresh idea. Charlie meets and finds inspiration in Lola and together, they discover that it takes a good friend to make a great pair.

The mystery that fascinated the world is now the musical that’s captivating Broadway. A rumor is spreading across the land: the missing princess of the Romanov empire may still be alive. Then, a young woman appears with no name and no family, but with the drive to discover her destiny. As she sets out on an epic journey in search of her past, clues unlock and memories return. Could she be the one they call Anastasia?

Blending the contemporary with retro sci-fi, this thrillingly exciting, comically subversive, and deeply felt new musical takes on the competing voices in all of our heads. And ultimately proves, there’s never been a better time in history to be yourself—especially if you’re a loser…geek…or whatever.

The Shops at Columbus Circle are located at 10 Columbus Circle.

The Best Nail Polish Colors for Winter

Winter is around the corner – but don’t go and retire your favorite fall colors anytime soon. Celebrity manicurist and owner of As U Wish Nail Spa, Skyy Hadley chose five shades that make for the ultimate manicure to transition from fall-to-winter. From a classic neutral to hot cocoa-inspired hues, these five polishes can be worn throughout the upcoming seasons.

1.Cozy, Caramel-Colored Neutral

Can’t go wrong with the classics. A warm-toned neutral is chic and minimalistic, and compliments anything you’re wearing. Switch things up, and opt for a matte finish instead of your glossy go-to.

2.Gilded in Gold

This time of the year is gold’s time to shine. It is always sure to dazzle – whether you can use it as an accent nail or a complete, show-stopping metallic manicure. It compliments all holiday color palettes effortlessly, making it versatile enough to bounce from season to season.

3.Forest Green

Nothing says holiday bliss more than a true shade of green. Somewhere in-between a medium-toned moss and a deep forest green, hunter green is an eye-catching color suited for fall, winter, and beyond.

4.Soft Chocolate

I’m loving cozy, chocolate colored nails this season. The muted neutral isn’t too flashy, while still standing apart from your average nude. Milk chocolate manicures are universally flattering on any skin tone, and a tasteful (and tasty) way to transition into the cold winter months.

Cranberry is a fun and festive twist on a classic red manicure. The gorgeous color will add a touch of glamour to your look, and serve as a subtle compliment to all of the seasonal décor.

The Mysterious Museum Experience on a “Werewolf Night”

There are some moments in life when you will feel #whereamI, #whatIamdoing, #whereamIgoing. I call them” loss moments”. And last night was definitely one of them.

Yesterday morning, CNN just received one package containing pipe bombs and everyone there was evacuated. I have not experienced 911 before, but still, keep thinking if I work there as my friend, how would I feel?

My friend still calmly played farm game on the class by my side, luckily she was on an offsite event when the suspicious bomb was received. Everything seems normal but still a little different. We are quieter than before yesterday, and pretend everything is cool , as we accepted for most of the things happen here.

After class, I went to a museum for the blog. And this also proves that my feeling was right. I was told that this is a preview for an adult museum for kids. When arrived at Slanton Street around China Town, there is a place with a tiny entrance along the road, no wall, no house, no light. Where is the f**k museum? Someone pointed one wood board standing in the entrance for me, which has words on it lighted by the mysterious light, it says, ” collective museum”.

This is how it looked in the light of candles on the soil ground. And I stepped in there,  with my guild Lance. He told me this is a special and unique playground, no, a museum for adults, but it is called as a children’s museum. The aim of that is to create a unique childhood fun experience for adults.

Along with him on the dark street, loop back and forth to see what are on my way, I felt I had my ” received bomb package” moment too. No, maybe it is “is someone going to kill me” moment.

Everything here is quiet, dark, mysterious but also be covered with a layer of warm natural light from the night. Surrounded by tents and without any electricity, I have doubted what I was doing that day. There is a tent with 2 musicians there which can make you a special song by my side. I heard the song from the tent, it was like lyrics which Gypsies nomad would make.

Then I wandered around, until a woman caught me up, saying ” Do you want to make a wish?”. As she said, since last night has a full moon, so she was given the power to “light” my wish to be true.

I wrote my wish on the paper, then she helped me light it until the paper disappeared with a huge burn of the file, like those ones who make brazil BBQ for you. One shot of fire, then disappear. But this time is more mysterious with an unknown seemingly magic.

There is also a booth nearby, the bartender can make you a ” bar of one” experience with a new cocktail created for each person. I don’t have a chance to try it. Need to finish my homework the next day and I need sober. Damn.

However, there is still some sober and creative fun I can have. In the last booth, I went to, an artist taught us to print the pattern with ink (kinda like calligraphy) on a special thin paper. I used two brushes to twist the ink in the water, then the artist helped me to take the paper out then dry it in the natural wind. ( See how mysterious it is on the wall, and you cannot believe that there is a mural paint above)

When I am about to leave, I saw someone is observing the moon in a telescope. I tried by myself too, but only see one white jelly moving around in the round shape. Chinese has a legend story saying couples who love each other but have no result will gather together on the moon at the round moon night. But according to the moon I saw, I doubted whether they can stand steadily for even a short kiss.

On my way home, the friend sent me one poetry on the night,

“The sound from the drum covered with bryophyte,

has shaken all the rocks and soil in this scaring forest.

But the sky is wide and deep,

Like tonight, the gibbous moon leaned in the frosty dark green,

when it wakes up, it will open heart sneakily to the only valley

it faces, too.”

Okay, my weird day was finally over with an artistic ending, thank god. And I still stayed as myself without turning into a werewolf. Lucky.
