Parks Associates: Nearly Half of Consumers Interested in Security Monitoring For Bedtime Routine, Triggered by Connected Health Device

New research from Parks Associates finds 49% of US broadband households consider the ability of a connected health device to interact with a security system or smart door lock to perform an “all is well” check at night appealing. This routine would be triggered when the user goes to bed and ensures the house is secure with all doors locked and system armed. Parks Associates’ sixth annual Connected Health Summit: Independent Living and Wellness, August 27-29 at the Pendry San Diego in San Diego, California, examines consumer interest in crossover use cases in the smart home, healthcare, and independent living ecosystems.

Event sponsors include HP, Independa, Alarm.com, Rapid Response Monitoring, MDLIVE, ADT Health, b.well, Freeus, Nortek Security & Control, Trusource Labs, GreatCall, Aprilaire, GiftCard Partners, Vital USA, and Reemo Health.

The session “Smart Home Devices and Wearables: Enhancing Wellness at Home” examines crossover use cases among connected health devices and wearables with other connected devices, such as smart lights, door locks, speakers, thermostats, and TVs.

    Speakers:

    • Travis Johnson, Global Product Lead, Garmin Health
    • Mark Khachaturian, PhD, CTO, Vital USA
    • Bill Maher, Director, US Medical Sales, A&D Medical
    • Alton Martin, SVP Growth and Co-Founder, Trusource Labs LLC

“The VitalWellness Platform enables users a mirror into their well-being by trending their data over time and monitoring changes in their baseline health,” said Mark Khachaturian, PhD, CTO, Vital USA. “The uniqueness of the VitalWellness device is the proprietary inflatable finger cuff which enables accurate blood pressure to be measured from the finger and allows multiple other sensors including PPG and an infrared thermometer to be integrated into a single device. Wellness monitoring of vital signs enables users to manage their health before there is a chronic condition, thus enabling healthcare, not sick care.”

“The ‘connected home’ presents a tremendous opportunity to extend the reach of our healthcare system, but connectivity is only part of solution,” said Bill Maher, Director, US Medical Sales, A&D Medical. “Critical to success is combining the technology with clinically relevant information as well as a seamless user experience.”

Connected Health Summit explores new strategies and innovations that will expand and improve independent living solutions for consumers and caregivers, including innovative monitoring and smart home solutions. The event features the pre-show workshop “Connected Health: Serving Consumers at Home” and sessions that examine consumer adoption and usage of connected health technologies and their expansion into the smart home, healthcare, and independent living ecosystems.

Parks Associates recently released the whitepaper “Telecare in the EU: Smart Home and Independent Living,” now available for download at http://parksassociates.com/whitepapers/eu-telecare-wp.

Squeaky Clean Skin Doesn’t Mean Healthy Skin

From beach vacations to family barbecues, summer is often filled with more time spent outdoors, which often leaves people wanting to wash their face at the end of the day. All that time in the humidity leaves people yearning to feel clean, yet according to recently released results from a CeraVe® survey conducted online by Harris Poll among 2,000 U.S. adults, people are confused about what “clean” actually means. While clean skin should feel hydrated, 37 percent of respondents think their skin should feel tight after cleansing. Another 33 percent associate dry skin with clean skin, which is not true. At a time of year when cleansing is even more essential to a skincare routine, CeraVe®, the dermatologist-developed skincare brand, is shedding light on what it means to have clean and healthy skin this Cleanse Your Skin Week, which took place July 28th through August 3rd.

With 43 percent of respondents saying that how their skin should feel after cleansing causes confusion, it’s no wonder people are looking to feel “squeaky clean.” However, a feeling of tightness is actually a sign of stripped moisture from the skin and often means you should be adapting your routine with products that include gentler, moisturizing ingredients. This feeling isn’t the only confusion being caused by this essential skincare step. In fact, more than half of respondents (53 percent) said they are confused about which type of cleanser to use; followed by how often to cleanse (47 percent).

“I always recommend my patients use gentle cleansers with hydrating ingredients as part of their daily regimen to not only provide a deep cleanse, but to avoid the tight feeling people often encounter after washing their faces, which is an indicationof lost moisture,” said Dr. Marchbein. “First remove makeup, oil and residue that’s built up during the day with a cleansing cloth, then use a fragrance-free cleanser like the CeraVe® Foaming Facial Cleanser, which features hyaluronic acid to attract hydration to the skin’s surface and ceramides to help lock in moisture.”

A foaming facial cleanser is ideal for removing excess oil, dirt and makeup but it’s important to choose a formula that won’t disrupt the skin’s natural protective barrier. It’s also beneficial to choose a gentle cleanser with ingredients that help maintain moisture balance. CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser features ceramides hyaluronic acid and niacinamide to help reinforce the skin’s barrier, attract hydration and soothe the skin.

CeraVe Foaming Facial Cleanser was developed with dermatologists to deeply cleanse, remove excess oil and refresh the skin without over-stripping it or leaving it feeling tight and dry. Featuring three types of essential ceramides, hyaluronic acid and niacinamide, this gel-based foaming cleanser is an effective yet non-irritating way to start off any skincare regimen for normal to oily skin.

    • Suitable for normal to oily skin
    • Refreshing foaming action
    • Ceramides: Essential for healthy skin, ceramides help restore and maintain the skin’s natural barrier
    • Hyaluronic acid: This ingredient attracts hydration to the skin’s surface and helps the skin retain moisture
    • Niacinamide: Helps the skin barrier and calms the skin
    • Non-comedogenic, non-irritating and fragrance-free
    • Developed with dermatologists

Despite confusion, a regular skincare routine is a necessity for healthy skin. Yet, nearly half of respondents (47 percent) admit to behaviors that are bad for their skin and one-third (35 percent) confessed to having poor skincare habits. When it comes to cleansing, 53 percent of respondents said they only use water when they wash their face, which board-certified dermatologist Dr. Shari Marchbein says is not an effective way to cleanse.

Moreover, people are willing to admit that there is more than confusion contributing to their skin sins:

    • The top three reasons respondents say they don’t cleanse are that they’re too tired (61 percent), they forget (47 percent) and they feel it is too much of a hassle and inconvenient (33 percent).
    • More than one-quarter of respondents (27 percent) say they have gone more than two weeks without washing their bed sheets and pillowcases, leaving skin susceptible to breakouts and irritation from sweat, oil and bacteria buildup.
    • While many people use washcloths for cleansing, 42 percent of respondents will use the same cloth up to four times without washing it and 16 percent will even use it up to seven times; thus, adding back accumulated grime and bacteria to freshly cleansed skin
    • Two-fifths of respondents (41 percent) admit that they use hot water when washing their face, which dermatologists say strips moisture from the skin and therefore, they advise using lukewarm water instead.

To help achieve a proper and effective cleansing routine, CeraVe® offers a complete range of cleansing products with three essential ceramides. Ceramides are found naturally in the skin as a key component of the skin barrier, helping skin seal in moisture and seal out impurities. The CeraVe® products leave skin cleansed and moisturized without disrupting the skin’s natural barrier.

“Cleansing is essential for healthy and hydrated skin, but it’s a step that tends to cause confusion,” said Derrick Booker, Vice President of Marketing. “As the #1 dermatologist-recommended skincare brand, CeraVe® knows that a proper skincare routine starts with cleansing and has created National Cleanse Your Skin Week to shed light on the importance of cleansers and how you don’t need to compromise your skin to achieve a clean, healthy look and feel.”

In addition to cleansers, CeraVe® offers a wide variety of therapeutic skincare products that are developed with dermatologists and contain ceramides 1, 3 and 6-II, which are essential to restoring and maintaining the skin’s natural barrier. What to Do if You Feel a Medical Professional Has Misdiagnosed Your Child

    Image result for autism meme

As a parent, your main concern in life should be to ensure your child stays happy and healthy. If you start to notice your child isn’t following the same developmental trajectory as their peers, this can be an unsettling time and you may have lots of unanswered questions. Before you can put a plan of action into place, you will need to get a diagnosis of whether your child has autism. It’s likely that you will have to wait a long period of time before a diagnosis can be made, but if you don’t get the result you expected, here is a guide on what you can do.

    Receiving the Wrong Diagnosis

If you believe your child is displaying autistic traits, it’s only natural that you will want to get an official diagnosis, however, if you haven’t received the diagnosis you expect, you will need to understand why this decision was made.

Diagnosis tends to solely be focused on observation. There are two main areas of difficulty that children with autism experience. These are social interaction/communication, and repetitive activities and behaviours. Common signs of these include sensory sensitivities, highly focused special interests, and in some cases, learning difficulties. Autism is a broad spectrum, so your child may display these signs on a varying level. If you find that the medical professional carrying out your child’s diagnosis doesn’t believe that they show any problems in the two main areas, you may not get the autism diagnosis you expect. If you have any concerns, it’s important that you ask for clarification. Diagnosis reports can be hard to read, so it’s best to seek help in a face to face environment.

    What to Do Next

If you aren’t happy with your child’s diagnosis, there are several things that you can do. Firstly, make sure to book an appointment with your GP who will refer your child for a second opinion. While there is no obligation for them to do this, explaining your worries and concerns may make them change their mind. If you’ve come to a barrier, you may want to consider arranging a private diagnosis for your child, especially if you disagree with the decision made by the NHS.

There are specialist centres that your child can be referred to in order to get the right diagnosis, however, the number of these centres is very limited, so you may find you cannot access one in your local area, meaning that it may take longer to get referred. Make sure to ask your GP or another medical professional who is involved in your child’s care for more information or look online.

    Making a Complaint

There is a fine line between not agreeing with a diagnosis, and being treated unfairly by a medical professional, however, if you wish to make a complaint, you’re well within your rights to do so. You can find out more here about how to make a complaint to NHS England. You may also want to claim for medical negligence if this is applicable, which is where experts like the-medical-negligence-experts.co.uk may be able to help.

If you have any concerns about your child’s diagnosis, it’s important that you seek help and advice straight away. Whether it be asking for a second diagnosis, going down the private route, or seeking medical negligence compensation, there are several things that you can do.

Wellness® Natural Pet Food Launches the Wellness Foundation to Give Nourishment and Love to Pets Who Need it Most

New charitable foundation partners with Best Friends Animal Society as its inaugural effort to help provide natural nutrition to more dogs and cats

The Wellness Foundation is charitable organization that was born with a singular goal in mind: to ensure that every pet on the planet is born, bred and raised with love.

TEWKSBURY, Mass., Aug. 20, 2019 – Whether they’re born into a loving family or on a journey from homelessness to a forever home, all pets’ health and happiness begins with a fundamental necessity: a meal that makes a difference. That’s why Wellness® Natural Pet Food, the maker of wholesome, nutrient-rich, natural food and treats for cats and dogs, launched the Wellness® Foundation, a new charitable organization that provides natural nourishment to pets in need.

The Wellness Foundation was born with a singular goal in mind: to ensure that every pet on the planet is born, bred and raised with love. Part of that mission includes helping homeless pets begin life in a new home with the nutrition they need to feel their best. To do that, the Wellness Foundation has partnered with Best Friends Animal Society, America’s leading national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America’s shelters, by providing rescue pets in Best Friends lifesaving centers across the country with Wellness food and treats to ensure that with each bite they take, they are one step closer to a happier future.

A recent national survey[1] conducted by Wellness Natural Pet Food found that the majority of American pet parents (76 percent) say they believe in the healing power of natural nutrition and high-quality ingredients for pets when they are sick. What’s more, almost all (92 percent) of respondents have proactively turned to natural foods as a solution to help their pet feel better when they’ve been under the weather.

“One of the things that makes pets so special is their ability to love unconditionally. At Wellness, we’ve always believed that loving them back starts with making sure their bowls are filled with the best possible nutrition,” said Camelle Kent, Chief Executive Officer of WellPet, maker of Wellness Natural Pet Food. “The Wellness Foundation not only allows us to ensure more pets across the country have that same opportunity to be healthy and happy, but it also invites pet parents to join the movement. By feeding Wellness to their own pets at home, pet parents will now know that they’re enabling us to do the same for pets in need.”

The Wellness Foundation partnership with Best Friends includes taking on the responsibility of being the official pet food partner. By donating food and treats to the thousands of dogs and cats in the care of Best Friends’ lifesaving centers, the Wellness Foundation will help fuel their ability to thrive in a new home. The Wellness Foundation has also committed to volunteering at Best Friends’ centers and events to further spread awareness of pet adoption across the U.S.

“At Best Friends, we’re on a mission to achieve no-kill in America’s shelters nationwide by 2025, and we believe we’ll be able to do so with the help of partners like the Wellness Foundation. We’re thrilled to work with Wellness not only to provide our pets with nutrition but also to have a partner who is equally committed to spreading awareness about pet adoption,” says Julie Castle, Chief Executive Officer of Best Friends Animal Society.

To celebrate the partnership, Wellness Natural Pet Food will launch a co-branded treat with Best Friends: Wellness® CORE® Bestie Bars. Packed with protein and superfood ingredients and without grains, corn, soy or artificial colors or flavors, these treats are inscribed with sweet sayings to spread the love with furry best friends and will be available this fall.

Each package of treats calls on pet parents to spread the word by posting a picture of their dog with their Bestie Bars on social media with #SaveABestie and @wellnesspetfood, adopt or donate by visiting BestFriends.org, or join the movement at WellnessFoundation.org.

BACKGROUND: Cat’s Are Odd Birds and Why?

Cats like boxes, like toddlers love banging spoons on pots and pans.  You can buy the coolest cat tower or toddler toy, but they will always go back to their favorite.  Why do cats like boxes?  Behaviorists claim that they are cryptic hiders, which means they pounce then retreat to their safety place. They also sleep on an average between 18-20 hours a day. That’s a long time and so they seek a den like shelter that keeps them safe from predators-it’s in their DNA. Also, the comfort temperature for a cat is 82-97 degrees! By staying in a box like shelter, they don’t expend as much energy and stay cool in the heat and warm in the cold. Kitty Cardboard is the solution to catscrazy cardboard preference!

STUDIES SHOW: Shelters Notice a Difference with Cardboard Boxes!

Another known fact that has recently evolved with not only the owner of Kitty Cardboard , but also with Ethologist, Claudia Vinke, Utrecht University in the Netherlands. They have independently observed that when boxes are provided in shelters for cats, the cats with the boxes are less stressed, play more and acclimate much faster to their new environment! Kitty Cardboards donates a box for every bought box.
