Holiday Gifts for Mom

My mom is a typical Chinese mom!  And buying gifts for her always require creative, innovative solutions…

Don’t know what I mean? See this cartoon below:

Moms don’t really need anything – They just want to know that you are alright and have everything you need! So buying a gift is a real challenge! But there are a few things my mom will never say no to and technically it is not a ‘waste’. So here they are! Awesome holiday gifts for your mom, aunt or grandma this Christmas.

1. Skincare – VOLANTÉ Skincare. Dr. Elizabeth VanderVeer created VOLANTÉ Skincare under the philosophy that skin should be given the same care as internal organs in the body.  Each product is powered by the 7 VITAE Complex, a patent-pending blend of premium botanicals that reverse the signs of aging: Aloe Vera, Arnica Montana, Bromelain, Calendula, Daisy Flower, Grape Seed, Zinc.  With impressive ingredients and stunning packaging, this soothing and rich night cream is top of my list.

2. Haircare – OmniPotent Duosity Conditioner As the name implies, Duosity is a two-part treatment. From one side of the tube comes a super-nourishing team of silk amino acids, keratin, and other plant-derived proteins; from the other, a mix of natural humectants and antioxidants (think: aloe, rosemary, and sage) that attract and bind moisture deep into the hair shaft. Meanwhile, sodium bicarbonate helps to balance pH levels (pretty cool, right?). Put both sides together to kickstart the formula and whip your hair into shape. Since my mom likes to dye her hair like I do, this is a present she can surely use and it is a nice change from her usual drug store products!

3. BackJoy products – My mom told me that she has backpain now from her being pregnant with me (30+ years ago duh) and lack of exercise. I will recommend the PostureWear Shirt ($89.99), the Sit Smart Posture Plus ($49.99) and Stress-combatting Roller Balls ($12.99). These 3 products are easy to use everyday without thinking about it and will definitely help with her back pain! The Shirt she can wear and will correct her posture and the seat is perfect for at her computer desk. Last but not least, the Roller Balls is a great way to destress tired muscles.

5 Natural Remedies For Winter Skin & Hair by @nitikachopra

Harsh winter weather and freezing temperatures require a little extra care in your beauty routine. You can make a big impact with just a few simple ingredients. Nitika Chopra, host of “Naturally Beautiful” on Z Living TV network has broken down the basics to keep your skin baby-soft and your hair moisturized all winter long.

1.    Coconut OilOnce a week in the winter, treat your hair to a coconut oil hair mask. Just before bed, apply organic coconut oil to your scalp and the ends of your hair with a cotton ball. Wrap your head in a towel, cover with a shower cap, and leave it in overnight. It keeps your hair super healthy and makes it soft and shiny. The next morning, rinse it out with just a little bit of shampoo (no conditioner necessary!). Use less coconut oil for thinner hair.

2.    Rose WaterYour beauty routine should be a sensory experience. I live in New York City, so I love to feel peaceful, relaxed and calm. One of my favorite ingredients is all-natural rose water. You can use it as a toner just after cleansing. It’s perfect in the winter because it fights inflammation and takes away redness and puffiness.

3.    AvocadoAvocado is really your best friend. The fruit is rich in Vitamins B, C, E and K. Mash up an avocado and use it plain as a face mask. It helps skin retain moisture, which is great for fighting wrinkles. Eating avocado, especially in the winter when we can have vitamin deficiencies, is also great. During colder months, it’s natural for us to crave creamier comfort foods, and avocado has the perfect consistency.

4.    SugarI’m also a huge fan of sugar scrubs because they are so luxurious and easy to make. Take brown sugar and your favorite oil (olive is a good option) and add an essential oil for natural fragrance. Lavender is soothing, while peppermint is more energizing. Pick the one that fits your mood!

5.    DIY SpaJust remember to test a small amount of any DIY spa recipe on the inside of your wrist before you use it on your face or body.
