The West Side Y Hosts Women’s Health Week

The West Side Y Hosts Women’s Wellness Week to celebrate National Women’s Health Week
Free fitness classes, workshops, and health screenings for women at the West Side YMCA

[New York, NY – May 1, 2014]  The 15th annual National Women’s Health Week kicks off on Mother’s Day, May 11, and is celebrated until May 17, 2014. Led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health, National Women’s Health Week empowers women to make their health a priority. To help encourage women to get active, the West Side Y is offering a week of fun, health and fitness related activities that are free and open to the public. Additionally, the West Side Y is offering membership deals including no joiner’s fee and one month free to further incentivize women to get moving.

Over the course of the week, the West Side Y invites you to join in the free fitness classes such as yoga, pilates, Zumba®, boot camp, total body conditioning and more. We are also hosting multiple workshops for women, including Telling Women’s Stories – a writing workshop for women; a Culinary Wellness Workshop with opportunities to get hands-on in creating healthy and nutrient dense meals; and Stress Relief workshops. Visitors and members will also enjoy giveaways and free chair massages throughout the week.

Additionally we are excited to announce that we are working with a number of partners to bring free health screenings to the West Side Y. Komen NYC will be sending the Scan Van to the Y to give free mammograms. Duane Reade and Walgreens will be providing blood pressure screenings throughout the week.

The West Side Y is also pleased to announce that they have just completed a total renovation of the Women’s Locker Room which features both steam and sauna rooms.
