Interview LOVE: Cam Heaps for Fight for Independence @CharityBoxingTO @SteamWhistle

Steam Whistle Brewing Co-Founder Cam Heaps recently announced his participation in the 9th Annual Fight for Independence; a charity boxing event that benefits Sick Kids and Nazareth House. We were given a heads up that Cam was doing interviews, so we jumped at the opportunity to have a sit down with him, and get the 411 on Fight for Independence, and his involvement with this event.

The theme of the event is the roaring 20s, as this was a time when boxing was the premier sport in the world; Kool Haus will be turned into a tasteful and exclusive speakeasy, and there will even be flappers and VIP ring-side bottle service. So exciting! I’ve never been to a boxing match, never mind watched one, so I’m really excited to see how the event will turn out!

Cam will be facing his opponent Pat Miller of Bimcor Inc.

A little bit about Fight For Independence:

The brainchild of Bay Street traders, James Beattie, Jackie Walker and Tom Gajer, Fight for Independence has always been about more than boxing bankers. “In 2004 we met Sister June Dwyer, who was running Nazareth House, and saw the lasting difference she was making in people’s lives by assisting them with their daily and weekly programming on a shoe-string budget. Before long, we knew we needed to find a way to raise money for the amazing work she and others were doing at the House.” In 2008, the event expanded to raise funds for the SickKids Emergency Department, which sees roughly 58,000 children each year and improves the hospital’s ability to treat patients in an organized and efficient manner, reducing wait times. Cailey Heaps Estrin and her family were in search of a way to give back after their daughter’s extraordinary experience. James suggested they team up with Fight for Independence to expand the sponsorship and audience, and to maximize support for these organizations.

Thanks (and good luck) to Cam for an awesome interview, as well as a big thank you to the people of Fight For Independence for inviting us to the event, we can’t wait!

Make sure you visit the website for more info on Fight For Independence and/or to donate 🙂

… and don’t forget to vote for Cam!

Natural Nate’s Honey: Raw and Unfiltered Goodness

Created to serve only Mother Nature’s sweetest nectar, Dallas-based Nature Nate’s honey comes from American bees, and is one of the few brands that produces 100% raw, natural and unfiltered honey. Debunking the myth that locally sourced honey will help with allergies, honey experts and customers alike have found that it is actually the pollen content in honey that remedies allergy symptoms (which can only be found in 100% raw, unfiltered honey). NatureNate’s “King Bee” and honey maker himself, Nathan Sheets, promises an undivided commitment to providing the highest quality product to you and your family while also committing to be faithful stewards of its funds.

Every since I got this bottle of honey I have been using it on everything! I put it on roasted sweet potatoes along with a sprinkle of paprika and it was divine.  I also used it in the honey for a feta/honey/date spread which is heavenly! Natural Nate’s honey is easy to use in every single recipe.

Feta Honey Date Spread

1 cup good quality crumbled feta (4 ounces)
½ cup toasted almonds, coarsely chopped
½ cup pitted dates, chopped
2 Tbsp. fresh marjoram or 1 Tbsp.fresh thyme, chopped
2 Tbsp. coarsely chopped and/or sliced green olives
2 tsp. lemon, zest

¼ tsp. cayenne pepper
Toasted pita bread wedges

Event LOVE Catch Up: #GCSmartLuxury

The people over at GC Timepieces recently invited us to attend the Smart Luxury Gala over at the Malaparte in the TIFF Bell Lightbox, to introduce us to their new Moments of Smart Luxury Campaign. The lovely Elana and I enjoyed an evening of special presentations by the event’s “Rising Stars,” sipped on yummy cocktails, snacked on tasty hors d’oeuvres (Portobello frites with truffle chive aioli, lobster slider, buttermilk fried chicken, braised short rib and new potato poutine, herb crusted tuna chopsticks… and that’s not even half of it, the menu was crazy good!), as well as viewed an impressive selection of GC Timepieces.

Event LOVE: @GUESS Fall 2013 Collection Press Preview

Last week, the lovely Kayla and I attended the private GUESS Fall 2013 Collection Presentation for Woman over at Soho House in downtown Toronto.

I liked quite a few pieces from the collection; we all know that I’m all about bright colours, and majority of the collection is dark colours. However, it’s dark done right, and if I’m gonna wear dark colours, I’m gonna wear them like this. I loved the leather shorts, the quilted leather sleeves on the dresses and the jackets, the cute purses… oooh and the jacket with the fringe detail! I loved that! Once we viewed the collection, it was time  to enjoy some drinks and treats, and catch up with some old friends, as well as make some new ones 🙂

I’ve never owned anything fringe so I was surprised by how much I liked this jacket!20130418_183027

Event LOVE: Gala of Light @StreetHaven

We were recently invited to the 2nd annual Gala of Light, which benefits Street Haven at the Crossroads, and was hosted by television personality, Melissa Grelo, Co-Host, and CP24 Breakfast/News Anchor. It was a lovely night of fundraising, eating delicious appetizers, sipping tasty cocktails, laughing and catching with some of my favourite bloggers, not to mention a mind blowing performance by Universal Music Canada Recording Artist Divine Brown!

About the Gala of Light and Street Haven:

“This event was established by a group of power-house women to bring awareness to marginalized women in downtown Toronto. Street Haven at the Crossroads is a multi-program agency that was established in 1965 to serve homeless women. Viewed as our biggest fundraising event of the year, The Gala’s attendees include a diverse audience of 350+ socially aware, influential, trendsetting, men and women across all industries, including: financial services, entertainment, fashion, and media. Street Haven has been part of our city for 47 years and counting providing thousands of homeless women with safety, support for recovery and a road to self-sufficiency. We invite you to be a sponsor, donor and community ambassador to a very special organization. This year our fundraising initiative is Operation Soul Food, bringing fresh, healthy, food options to our clients. In addition to providing wholesome food, Street Haven’s women help grow a small community garden that provides great therapy to our clients and serves as a culinary asset in the kitchen to have fresh herbs on hand. Our long-term plan is to expand the program to include yoga instruction, access to memberships to YMCA facilities, meditation and food preparation classes.”- Shannon Wright

Thank you for inviting us!

Detox with @KaengRaeng

Time to shed those winter ‘keep me warm’ extra pounds! Jump start your spring body activation with a 3 day cleanse. Sounds easy but is it?  You can eat fruit and vegetables and is basically a meal replacement. Weekends are the best time to try this.

Kaeng Raeng Vegan Cleanse  is a product I recently tried. It is very innovative and have 2 ways you can incorporate into your day. 1st, you can put it with water and shake OR you can put it into a smoothie.

The program is simple and straight forward:  just drink one pouch per meal time (3 times per day) in addition to raw fruits and vegetables.  Simply add one pouch to 24-32oz of liquid.  You can use water, juice, or non-dairy milk.  For best results, just add water.  You can also blend it with liquid, frozen fruit, or ice for a thicker sweeter smoothie.

There is a DETOX test you can take on the site that will tell you what you should start with.

Some of the fun facts of why you should do a cleanse:

 -Jumpstart weight loss

– Remove toxins

– Bolster immunity

– Improve digestion

– Enhance skin and hair quality

– Relieve bloating

– Reduce cravings and overeating

Kaeng Raeng is completely animal free, gluten free, caffeine free, eco friendly, and proudly made in Palo Alto, CA with only local ingredients.  KR contains no artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners, or preservatives. KR contains no laxatives or stimulants. Each pouch contains more than a full serving of fruit and fiber, 15g of lean non-gmo protein, 2 billion live probiotic cultures, essential amino acids, and daily vitamins.  It’s gentle, mild, and filling!
