Summer Hair Tips from Celeb Hairstylist Peter Lamas

I’m here to share with you a few hair tips from @Peter_Lamas, celebrity hair stylist and owner of Peter Lamas Haircare. With spring just around the corner and summer not too far away, check out these organic hair care tips that’ll leave you with healthy, flowing locks.

     Peter-Lamas

HDY: How to keep hair hydrated for summer?

    Peter Lamas:

The summer sun can definitely zap hair of vital moisture. Here are a few tips to help keep hair hydrated:

    – Use a clarifying shampoo and conditioner – like the Peter Lamas Wheatgrass Purifying System – once a week to keep build up at bay. Also, apply a deep conditioning hair mask to locks once a week to keep your mane moisturized.

    Wheatgrass-Conditioner

    – Rinse hair with filtered water after swimming in a pool or the ocean to help remove chlorine, saltwater or debris that may be stuck in hair.

    – Wear a hat to limit sun exposure to your hair and scalp.

HDY: Why is organic hair care more beneficial, especially in warm months?

    Peter Lamas:

People tend to wash their hair more in the summer because of outdoor activities and the heat however; harsh detergents in some shampoos do more than clean your hair. Sulfates can over dry hair, especially during the summer when combined with the heat and sun. Avoid shampoos containing sulfates, wash only as needed, and rinse with cool water to help protect your hair color during the summer.

HDY: How much sun is too much sun for hair?

    Peter Lamas:

Treat your hair like you would your skin! Use an SPF to help reduce UV damage to your locks. Simply dilute 2 teaspoons of an SPF 25 sunscreen down with one cup of water. Fill a spray bottle with the mixture and spritz the product into damp hair before styling! Voila! Homemade sunscreen for your hair! For additional protection, you can mist the solution on throughout the day.

HDY: Is it safe to constantly put heat on your hair, even during hot months? What Peter Lamas products are there to combat dry hair?

    Peter Lamas:

Give the heat styling tools a rest during the summer! Opt to air dry your hair instead and use a light styling cream like the Chinese Herbs Revitalizing Styling Cream to help keep frizz to a minimum and show off your natural hair texture.

Getting the right haircut to handle humid weather will also keep your mane looking great throughout the warm months. Add layers to curly hair to keep locks from puffing out at the bottom and creating that pyramid shape. For straight hair, you want a little extra weight at the bottom to keep hair from expanding in the humidity, so avoid cuts that are too choppy or over texturized. Apply a leave-in conditioner throughout the day – like the Repair Me Detangling Mist – to give your lock a hydrating boost.

What are some quick, easy general hair care tips for styling during the summer?

    Peter Lamas:

The hot summer months are a perfect time to let your hair down! Use a light styling cream to help enhance natural hair texture and reduce frizz.

Low-maintenance hairstyles like a pretty ballerina bun or a fishtail braid are also perfect to help keep hair out of your face. A light spritz of Hold Me Thermal Styling Spray before styling will help keep hair in place.

Keep your hair color vibrant during the summer months by limiting your hair’s exposure to the sun. You can also purchase color-saving products that are formulated to help keep your hue bright.

Because summer is rougher on hair than other seasons, it is more important to get your hair trimmed every 4 to 6 weeks. The ends of hair become weak from color treatments, processing, sun, and chemicals causing them to split and fray. Bump up your normal haircut schedule in the summer to keep hair looking and feeling healthy.

The diluted sunscreen in a squirt bottle is something I’m definitely going to add to my summer haircare routine to keep my hair as healthy as possible in the California sun! Try these tips out and let me know how they work for you. For more info on Peter Lamas or his products, check out his website or follow him on Twitter! Stay tuned for upcoming Peter Lamas product posts!

Always Wanted to Live in NYC?

I am subletting my Manhattan apartment!

If you want the details, click here

Greenwich Village,[pronunciation 1] in New York often simply called “the Village”, is a largely residential neighborhood on the west side of Lower Manhattan in New York City. A large majority of the district is home to upper middle class families. Greenwich Village, however, was known in the late 19th to mid 20th centuries as an artists’ haven, the bohemian capital, and the East Coast birthplace of the Beat movement. What provided the initial attractive character of the community eventually contributed to its gentrification and commercialization.[2]

The neighborhood is bordered by Broadway to the East, the Hudson River to the West, Houston Street to the South, and 14th Street to the North.[citation needed] The neighborhoods surrounding it are the East Village and NoHo to the East, SoHo to the south, and Chelsea to the North. The East Village was formerly considered part of the Lower East Side and never associated with Greenwich Village.[4] The West Village is the area of Greenwich Village west of 7th Avenue, though realtors claim the dividing line is farther east at 6th Avenue. The Far West Village is a sub-neighborhood from the Hudson River to Hudson Street. The neighborhood is located in New York’s 8th congressional district, New York’s 25th State Senate district, New York’s 66th State Assembly district, and New York City Council’s 3rd district.
Into the early 20th century, Greenwich Village was distinguished from the upper-class neighborhood of Washington Square – based on the major landmark Washington Square Park[5] or Empire Ward[6] in the 19th century.
Encyclopædia Britannica’s 1956 article on “New York (City)” (subheading “Greenwich Village”) states that the southern border of the Village is Spring Street, reflecting an earlier understanding (today, Spring Street might be considered the southern boundary of the neighborhood sometimes called the South Village, though some cite Canal Street as the furthest extent of the South Village). The newer district of SoHo has since encroached on the Village’s historic border.

@LEVIS Fall 2012 Global Collection Preview

New York Fashion Week had a treat when The Levi’s® brand launched its first ever global collection last Wednesday, at SoHo’s landmark Mercer 82 event space.

During the event The Levi’s® brand showcased the key looks from its Fall/Winter 2012 collection – a hybrid between custom-made vignettes featuring pinnacle products from the line and a runway show.

“Levi’s® has always been about embracing the energy and events of our time. Today, fashion is more democratic and accessible than ever, making New York Fashion Week the perfect moment in time for the Levi’s® brand to launch our first global collection,” said Len Peltier, Global Vice President of Creative Direction.

The collection is based on a more refined and tailored look for both men and women. Its inspiration is drawn from craftsmanship, honesty and authenticity – “honoring tradition while defying convention, redefining the norm and re-crafting and re-creating iconic Levi’s® styles.”

    THE COLLECTION

Steeped in the authenticity and craftsmanship that the brand is known for, the collection is built around classic and refined styles with sharp clean aesthetics, which have been tailored to perfection.

The key trend for men this season is the tapered look, for a great flattering fit that sits just below the waist, is slouchy on the top and has a slim tailored leg.

For women, the key look for the season is the Bootcut Skinny, which the Levi’s® brand has completely reinvented. No longer your mother’s bootcut denim, this season will see the launch of this new take on a classic – a sexy, modern skinny fit making you forever think differently about the bootcut.

Celebrities spotted: Maria Menounos, Brad Goreski, Harley Viera Newton, Theophilus London, Jessica White, Zachary Levi, and Byrdie Bellcame.

For more products and information visit Levi’s® and their Facebook!
