    What Up With Joaquin?

While home sicky-icky, I stumbled across this flick on Joaquin Phoenix called “I’m Still Here” and couldn’t help but hold the channel… shot in documentary-style, the camera follows Joaquin (pronounced WAH-keen) and his battle with drugs after his announcement to leave acting and focus on a RAP career.

    Catch the official trailer…
I won’t spoil the film, but I will tell you that I couldn’t resist doing more research and (while it was totally worth watching) theres more to this story… First, I was literally in tears watching, as Joaquin Phoenix is an actor that I literally grew up with; my Mum and her friends were a huge fan of himself as well as his brother, River Phoenix, who’s tragic overdose was tossed across the media in the early ’90s. Truth is… the film is a mok-u-mentary that Phoenix and directing partner Casey Affleck created to explore famosity, the relationship of the media and the consumer by literally exposing the celebrity. This was done, under the awareness of very few people, to make it all the more real… and impactful!

    Iyadede

To say I have a love affair with Africa would simply be an understatement. After doing my undergrad in Comparative Literature in African and Asian Cultures… I am mesmerized and truly believe that everything comes from the Motherland. Through love of this entire continent and the soul of its people, my eyes light up and I can say I have a true love for black people.  A beautiful performance by Dede last night reminded me of my love for artful, vivacious people in my life.  In order to create art, music and inspiration, you have to experience and gone through life. I am a true believe that deep pain spawns true beauty. This is the meaning of African Beauty.

Iyadede is an independant artist born in Rwanda raised in Belgium and currently based in Brooklyn New York!
Her sound is eclectic wide as the galaxy she gracefully evolves in.
it is definetely new music you gonna dig and want to play for your friends…

Dede spirit and artistry made me miss my Bella so much! As you guys know Bella is from Zambia and her swagg in on a hundred trillion. Dede is from Rwanda and though these 2 ladies have totally different stories, come from different countries and backgrounds, being in her presence reminded me of what a blessing it is to be around SOULFUL women.

Electro-pop, Afri-pop, a breath of fresh air. More Dede for Days on her Tumblr!

    Music eh! Negar

For this segment of Music eh! I bring you Negar. Thanks for sharing this with us girl!

    About Negar:
“My whole life has been dictated by my surroundings. I was born in Tehran, but had to leave at an early age because of war and revolution. I grew up splitting my time between Abu Dhabi and Canada. This obvious divide between cultural traditions, and most importantly, the wide spread repression I witnessed throughout the Middle East sparked a desire to explore myself creatively, which led me to music.”– Negar

Check out her first EP on her bandcamp, and you can also download the song “A Woman” for FREE (I like this song ). Her music video for “Faceless, Nameless” which was featured in the upcoming film “Bluebird” is also online, so check that out.
There’s something about her voice that I love… so far I’m digging the song “One Minute”, what do you guys think about Negar?

    peace, love and health
    ♥Bella♥
