Dom Streater wins Project Runway OtterBox Challenge

Fashion designer Dom Streater, best known by fans as Project Runway’s 12th season winner, is the winner of the OtterBox Smartphone Case Design Challenge.

Verizon partnered with Otterbox to host the challenge helping to further remove style barriers from tech by teaming up with Project Runway: All Stars and OtterBox to design the most-fashionable smartphone cases. Below I have included information about the design and the challenge.

    Winning Design

OtterBox is producing not just one, but two separate Symmetry Series cases featuring her designs, which are sold exclusively by Verizon. Streater’s two winning case designs each boast its own sense of style. The first case features a sophisticated Pink Swirl design with a black and white geometric pattern highlighted by bold pink floral accents. The second case has a Green Diamond design with a black and white diamond-patterned background and green botanical accents. The attractive cases are now available both online and in Verizon stores for iPhone 6s ($39.99), iPhone 6s Plus ($49.99), and Samsung Galaxy S7 ($39.99).

    The Challenge

For the OtterBox Challenge, the all-star designers were tasked with creating an original print that could both walk down a runway and be used on a smartphone case, with the winning design to be featured on a Symmetry Series smartphone case. For the print-on-print challenge, each designer was tasked with creating their own print. After print creation, they each received $200 to purchase a second print. All designs were to feature their original design plus the design they purchased. However, Streater decided to take it to the next level by creating both designs to provide the print-on-print effect, versus purchasing a design as the second print.

    Case Loyalty Program

With the OtterBox Smartphone Case Design Challenge phone cases, the days of being tied to one phone case are over. Verizon’s Case Loyalty Program lets you purchase one of the design colors and receive a 25% off code for the next case you buy. Redeem the 25% off code and receive a 30% off code for the next case. Stay stylish, and have a case for every occasion. The more cases, the more savings.

    A Night with the Stars @ CAPE + Verizon’s #IAM Night Out

    Ciao lovelies!

This past week I was fortunate to join CAPE + Verizon’s #IAM Night Out in NYC.

    IMG_5622

CAPE, or the Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment is an incredible non profit who’s goal is to shed light on Asian American Pacifics in the media. Some of the fellows from this year include Constance Wu (aka sassy mom from FRESH OFF THE BOAT) and Youtube Sensation Joseph Vincent  (You’re welcome ladies!)

Screen Shot 2015-06-22 at 11.43.42 PM

The #IAM campaign was really special because it allowed these amazing self made professionals to tell the story of how they started off and how they got to where they are today. I think anyone, regardless of their heritage can relate to chasing a dream, and then with some luck and hard work, actually achieving it!

    IMG_5633

A lot of fashionistas came out to see the event. I LOVE this flowery print top paired with this solid black skirt. I also loved the unique detailing of this Indian Septum ring spotted on one of the lovely ladies from the event’s sponsor, Verizon.

    IMG_5631

The night was seasoned with some AMAZING live performances form Youtube musicians Joseph Vincent and Justin Chen and some hilarious stand up from Host/stand up comedian Paul PK Kim. Some inspiring stories also came from Yong Kim, Ted Kim, and Chris Oh, two brothers and a childhood bestie who quit their advertising jobs to start the Korean sausage company, Seoul Sausage Co. They ended up competing in Food Network’s “Food Truck Race” in season 3 and won EVERY. SINGLE. ROUND. (mic drop)

     IMG_5646

As inspiring as that was, my favorite anecdote came from Dancing With The Star’s, Carrie Ann Inaba and her very first audition for the early 90’s show, “IN LIVING COLOR“. (PS- I have no words for the dancing or outfits in this link:)

For those of you who don’t know, this is the show where JLO, “Jenny from the Block” first made her way in the spotlight. After a vigorous dance audition, creator Keenan Ivory Wayans said to Carrie, “Do you know why I chose you? You were the worst dressed person but you walked in with such confidence, I gave you the job before I even saw you dance. You were so confident, I had to drink your Kool Aid.”

    IMG_5657

So my Reading Rainbow message to you lovely folks tonight is, remember, the world isn’t about just what you wear, but also your mindset. If you believe in yourself, than maybe the rest of the world will follow suit and you’ll be one step closer to achieving your dream. Maybe it’ll be you up on stage inspiring us all one day:)

    Chau for now!

Apps to Keep you Fit 2015

One way to keep your motivation as strong in September as it is in January is by using technology. Wearables and apps are increasingly popular tools for keeping fitness routines on track, with 45% of consumers saying they are very or somewhat likely to pick up a fitness wearable in the next year.

Verizon Wireless, the nation’s largest and fastest 4G LTE network, has some suggestions for how to keep your fitness goals on track using wearables and apps.

    For example:

    · The Misfit Shine is not the clunky, unfashionable fitness tracker you’re used to. It can be worn as a necklace, watch, sneaker attachment or shirt attachment and is just about the size of a quarter. Don’t let the small size fool you, though – this thing delivers mighty results. It tracks steps, activities (even swimming!) and sleep. You can use the accompanying app to set goals and track your progress as well.
    · Boring bathroom scales need not apply – the Fitbit Aria Wi-Fi Smart Scale measures your weight, body fat percentage and BMI, giving you a snapshot of your progress over time. After setting it up with a computer or smartphone, the scale automatically and wirelessly syncs your progress with charts and graphs through your Wi-Fi network to your private Fitbit account. It can also be programmed for up to 8 different people, so your family can join in on your resolution too!
    · Put your smartphone to work – work out, that is! With the Lose It! app, you can set goals, track calories and exercise, and stay motivated. Plus, it syncs seamlessly with tons of other apps, including Nike+ and RunKeeper, so you don’t have to manually enter data.
    · Confused by nutrition labels, good fat versus bad fat and how much sugar you should be eating in a day (don’t worry, I am too!)? Try Fooducate, the app that’s like bringing a dietician to the supermarket. Simply scan a barcode and see product highlights, a comparison between products and healthier alternatives.

10 Days of San Gennaro with Verizon Droid Mini

(taken with the Verizon Droid Mini Front Face Camera)

One of the season’s most anticipated festivals in New York City is the San Gennaro! It was for 10 days for fun, food and more food! Thousands of people from all over the world will pack Little Italy for food, fun and an amazing celebration of Italian culture. I was happy to go and see all the festivities. It is just in my neighborhood so I could walk there and enjoy all the awesome events.

With over 20,000 Instagram photos over the past 10 days, I had a few to add to the pile as well. The Droid Mini is small, fast and mighty. The battery life was great and the camera was outstanding. I was able to access the camera in a quick swipe and with just one hand.  I am an Android user and found that the Droid Mini was packed with a lot of features like a really loud speaker, great coverage and numerous apps available.  I look forward to visiting again next year!

Big thanks to Verizon to letting me experience the Droid Mini for the San Gennaro Festival!

    ABOUT:

Presented annually since 1996 by Figli di San Gennaro, Inc. (Children of San Gennaro), a not-for-profit community organization dedicated to keeping alive the spirit and faith of the early Italian immigrants, this year’s Feast is expected once again to attract more than one-million people from the four corners of the globe to the streets of Little Italy to participate in the annual Salute to the Patron Saint of Naples.

Although this is an annual celebration of faith, the Feast of San Gennaro is known the world over for its festive atmosphere, an 11-day event featuring religious processions and colorful parades, free musical entertainment every day, a wide variety of ethnic food delicacies, charming restaurants and cafes and even a world-famous cannoli-eating competition! The central focus of the celebration takes place every September 19th, the official Saint Day when a celebratory Mass is held in Most Precious Blood Church, followed immediately by a religious procession in which the Statue of San Gennaro is carried from its permanent home in the church through the streets that comprise Little Italy.

“This Feast of San Gennaro holds a special place in the place of Italian people everywhere,” says Joseph Mattone, President of Figli di San Gennaro, Inc. “It is a festive period of faith and redemption, a time for remembrance and reconciliation, and a time for celebration. The delicious food, the free musical entertainment that reflects Italian-American culture and heritage are all there. The Feast brings the world to Little Italy and Little Italy to the world.”
