New Music: The Get By
Love that underground Toronto hip-hop music? Well, say ‘hello’ to The Get By. Made up of two emcees (Justis and Mantis) and radio and club DJ Pangea Delphi, they know how to drop a beat.
Definitely not new to the Canadian hip-hop industry, The Get By has shared stages with Talib Kweli and Hi-Tek (Reflection Eternal), Asher Roth, People Under The Stairs, Rapper Big Pooh (of little brother fame), Kardinal Official, Classified, Shad K, DJ Red Alert, Scratch from the Legendary Roots and lots more.
This Toronto-based group will be releasing new music every Monday until their album release in early September. Check out their myspace and get familiar.

Gramercy Theatre was popping…The Plectrum party was hosted by John Roberts of Bob’s Burgers, DJ sets by Josh Madden and DJ DL, and performances by Graffiti6 and Talib Kweli.

Ben Sherman Music Charity Initiative
Ben Sherman has partnered with Lifebeat, the music industry’s response to AIDS prevention and education. We’ve gathered bespoke memorabilia from around the world from some of the world’s biggest names in music from Mark Ronson, Coldplay, Panic! at the Disco, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Emmylou Harris, Futureheads, Jack Penate, James Blunt, The Kooks, Mary Wilson, The Monkees, Noah & The Whale, Paul Weller, Pete and the Pirates, Ronnie Wood, Stereophonics, We are Scientists, among many, many others.

Our participating musicians have each signed a guitar pick and hand-written a note on where they last used the pick. These along with a photograph of him/herself have been placed in custom frames. Ben Sherman will host an in-store exhibition on the 17th of May at Ben Sherman Soho, 96 Spring Street, from 7 to 9 pm to create awareness for the initiative. This is open to the public. The memorabilia will auction off on ebay starting on May 29th with all proceeds going to Lifebeat.On May 18th, NYC lumieres will gather at a star-studded concert at the Gramercy Theatre. Guests will enjoy performances by the original American MC of Brooklyn, Talib Kweli, UK band Graffiti6 who was selected by MTV (you guys) as an artist to watch in 2011. Rounding out the evening are DJ sets by Josh Madden and DJ DL. The evening will be hosted by comedian John Roberts, known as Linda on Bob’s Burgers. A menu of delightfully sinful drinks will be served to those 21-and-over.

Went down to SNAP last night with Yale for the Talib listening party…Even though it was 2 blocks from where we live, we took a cab. Ha ha.. Look out for this album out on Jan 25, 2011!
With the economic climate and the weather climate gray and gloomy, it is really important to grasp this concept of ‘gutter rainbows’. It’s not about positivity but it’s about survival and being able to always get that second wind. Don’t give up. 2011 is going to be epic.Talib talking about what the title “Gutter Rainbows” means..
