5 All-Natural, DIY Beauty Treatments for Dry, Winter Skin

As temperatures drop, our skin takes a beating from harsh winds, low humidity, and forced heat in our homes and offices. The Epsom Salt Council partnered with TRUE Model Management to learn how some models treat their dry, winter skin with all-natural, DIY beauty treatments.

Epsom Salt and Oatmeal Facial Mask

“Clear skin is important in my line of work, and I love to create DIY facials to help me keep my skin looking its best. This Epsom salt and oatmeal facial is one of my favorites. I like to apply this mask just before bed, so that my newly cleaned and moisturized skin can breathe all night long. This mask leaves my skin smooth, clear, and moisturized.” – Hannah

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 tbs Epsom salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp honey

Mix the ingredients together until they are combined. Wet your face before you apply the mixture to your skin in circular motions, covering your face evenly. Once the mixture is applied, leave the mask on for 5 minutes. Next, rinse your face with warm water.

Fresh Lip Treatment

“Use this recipe to exfoliate and moisturize your lips.” – Dale

  • 3 tbs Epsom salt
  • 1 fresh strawberry
  • 1 tbs of olive oil

Crush 1 fresh strawberry – be sure to remove the stem – and mix it with the Epsom salt mixture. Apply the mixture to your lips using gentle circular motions. Do this for a minute or 2, then rinse with warm water. You can proportionally increase the amount of ingredients to create an additional body scrub.

Cuticle Softener

“It is important that I have great looking nails. My cuticles tend to get dry in the wintertime, so I try to take extra care to soften and remove my dry skin and cuticles. This recipe is super easy to make and requires very few ingredients, which I prefer to pre-packaged cuticle softeners.” – Veronica

  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 tbs Epsom salt
  • 2 tbs coconut oil
  • 1 – 3 drops of essential oil of your choice

Mix the ingredients in a shallow bowl, then submerge your fingers (or toes) into the mixture and let soak for 5-10 minutes. After soaking, your cuticles should be soft and moisturized and will be easier to cut and/or push back.

Epsom Salt Body Butter

“The winter weather is very drying for me; this recipe is great for replenishing moisture back into your skin. I like to switch it up by using different essential oils, so that the scent goes along with the season. Lemon is one of my favorite scents and one that I think works all year long, as it is so refreshing.” – Janel

  • 1 cup coconut oil (you can use Shea butter if you prefer)
  • 2 tsp Epsom salt
  • 1 – 3 drops essential oil of your choice

Mix the ingredients together in a bowl until well combined. Apply a thin layer to your skin by massaging in circular motions. Store the remainder in an air tight container.

Moisturizing Foot Scrub

“This food scrub will remove dead skin and leave your feet feeling brand new.” – Dale

  • 1 tbs Epsom Salt
  • 1 avocado
  • ¼ cup cornmeal

Scoop out the avocado and mash it in a bowl. Add the cornmeal and Epsom salt to the mixture and combine well before applying the mixture to your feet in circular motions. Let your feet set for 5 minutes and rinse with warm water. For stubborn calluses or dry spots, rub the inside of the avocado peel onto your skin. The avocado oil will help soften your skin. For an extra dose of exfoliation, take a dried out avocado pit (2-4 days should do the trick) and grind it up. Add the grounded up avocado pit to the cornmeal and sea salt mixture.

What’s in Epsom salt and how it works

Most people know about the importance of calcium and vitamin D, but many Americans are also magnesium deficient. Doctors say it stems largely from the increasing prevalence of processed foods in our diets. Today, 68 percent of U.S. adults consume less than the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of magnesium, according to a recent study, and 19 percent consume less than half the RDA.

Epsom salt is made of naturally occurring minerals magnesium and sulfate, ingredients which can help improve health in numerous ways. A lack of magnesium—which helps regulate the activity of more than 300 enzymes in the body—can contribute to high blood pressure, hyperactivity, heart problems and other health issues, doctors warn. Sulfate is essential for many biological processes, helping to flush toxins and helping form proteins in joints, brain tissue and mucin proteins.

Presari – use for problem solving research

Presari  – a channel changer for search engines that lets you select where you want your results to come from using a hand-picked selection of over 700 search engines – all hand selected by me because of the quality and curated content they provide.  It helps cut through the ads and SEO manipulated results you see with the common search engines and gets you to relevant quality content faster.

Presari can be used for problem solving research, for fun and entertainment, for personal health and lifestyle improvement, and for geographic and topical lead generation. The goal is to help people create opportunity with better knowledge and connections.

Presari packs a huge amount of search engine choices into a very small amount of space. You enter a keyword and click on an icon and the results open for you. Sure, you can wade through the swamp of mostly useless results on Google and Bing, or you can go right to some the social media. And you can tailor your own search dashboard to display whatever you want from over 734 search engines in whatever categories you choose to call them.  To save time and reduce or even eliminate typing, you can also save a search to your Favorites. And you can also help people learn and solve problems because you can share your searches any number of ways, too.

There are a couple of startup sources set up for you to get started, and then you can click on settings and tailor your dashboard to include anything you want.

Go to Settings. Click on a new Source Group. Give it a name. Then load it up with sources. Choose a category, click on search engines to add them to your Source Group. Blue is off, Green is on. Save all or none. Play with it to get a feel for how it works.  Then save your selection. You get up to 10 source groups and five one-clicks.

Then have at it – the sky is the limit. Presari isn’t open yet. We are going into a full private beta this next week. So I’d welcome your feedback., We are seeking ideas and recommendations on how to make it better. If you like it, you will be among the first to write about it. There are some amazing things to be found when one has access to search beyond Google. I built some specialized and comprehensive time saving keyword drop downs into Presari that can be used to help save time getting to better results.  I can show you how to do this yourself anytime. Targeting with topical and geographic keywords is much easier than you might imagine and you can do it yourself quickly anytime.
