Esther’s Kitchen Announces Opening Date For Main Street Location

Chef/Owner James Trees has announced the opening date for the new Esther’s Kitchen location at 1131 South Main Street in the Las Vegas Arts District. The new Esther’s will open for dinner, weekday lunch and weekend brunch beginning Friday, March 8, 2024. Reservations information will be made available via Esther’s Kitchen social media (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok: @estherskitchenlv, X: @LVEsthers) on March 6.

Replacing the original location on California Street (1130 Casino Center Dr.) which closed Feb. 28 2024, the restaurant will now offer 187 seats including 28 bar seats in a 10,432 square foot space–in total more than three times the capacity of the original location.

“We are really excited to provide the same neighborhood, seasonal experience for our guests that we have been doing for six years,” said Trees, “Only now, we won’t have to turn anyone away.”

Taking over a 1940s-vintage corrugated steel and concrete building that previously housed the Retro Vegas vintage store, the new Esther’s Kitchen will be a continuation of the seasonal Italian & craft cocktails restaurant which has been a popular favorite for locals and visitors alike–and a consistent award winner–since opening in 2018. In most recent years, reservations have frequently booked out weeks in advance, creating the demand for a larger space. Trees was adamant about keeping the restaurant in the Arts District, waiting for the perfect opportunity to present itself, as the new location is literally steps away from the original.

While staying faithful to the spirit of the original, the new Esther’s will offer several new exciting features including a vastly improved entrance experience, live pasta making and wood fired pizza stations, a private dining room with approx 55 seats, and a wraparound bar including window bar rails with a view of Main & California. The new kitchen will include a wood fired hearth, adding some large format entrees to the menu, and a full professional baking suite. An additional loft bar experience will open at a later date.

Decor by Amanda Trees will include walnut countertops, tufted dining chairs in buckskin and English pub blue, bespoke wall coverings include vintage mid century breeze block-style accents and reclaimed wood, hand built wainscotting, and chandeliers recalling twirled pasta. A rear hallway pays tribute to the first six years of Esther’s with a collage of menus beneath framed awards. Yellow banquettes and a wall size print of the Venice, CA pier recall the original Esther’s decor, while the pizza oven is covered in a mosaic of Esther’s floor tiles.

Chef Trees will be joined on the management team by Executive Chef Sean O’Hara, Director of Operations Keith Bracewell, General Manager David Klarer, Event Coordinator Gatsby Darwin, Bar Manager Tucker St. John.

About James Trees & Esther’s Kitchen

Fresh, Seasonal, Local, Simple. These ideas shouldn’t be uncommon in the restaurant world, but are far too often overlooked. For Chef James Trees, after scaling some of the most impressive heights in the restaurant business with a who’s-who of celebrity chefs (from Michael Mina to Gordon Ramsay, Eric Ripert and many others), no ambition was calling him more than bringing it all back home. Esther’s Kitchen, named for the Great Aunt who was Chef James’ first mentor, is nothing more–and nothing less–than a local restaurant inspired by its Las Vegas Arts District neighborhood to elevate the simple, and simplify elegance. Grounded in the ingredient-driven cuisine of Italy, pastas, breads and nearly everything possible are made in-house; produce and proteins come from the best local sources available; wines are chosen for intrigue and value; cocktails are mixed to please you, not a bartender’s ego. It’s a restaurant you’ll want to call home.

Esther’s Kitchen has been fortunate to receive a number of accolades since opening including Gayot top 10 new restaurants in the US, 2018; 10 Best Las Vegas Restaurants and #1 Best Italian (USA Today). Best Italian in Las Vegas nods from Gayot.com, Thrillist and Desert Companion magazine; and “Best New Neighborhood Mindblower” from Las Vegas Weekly. TripAdvisor named it a worldwide Travelers Choice in 2020 and #15 “Hidden Gems” in the US in 2022. Yelp selected Esther’s pizza as one of the Top 100 in the US, 2023. Thrillist has also tapped it as one of the best Italian restaurants in the country.

Chef James Trees has been recognized as “Chef of the Year – 2019” by the Nevada Restaurant Association “Executive Chef of the Year, 2019” by the Silver State Awards, “Chef of the Moment” by VEGAS magazine and “Chef of the Year” for the Desert Companion 2021 Restaurant Awards. Romanian Art Flourishes on the World Stage as Contemporary Artists Make Their Mark

The vibrant culture and rich history of Romania was and is expressed through its compelling art, and now the contemporary art scene there is emerging as more robust than ever and capturing the attention of the international art community.

The creative force of Romanian artists are breaking barriers, and establishing Romania as a significant hub of contemporary creativity. As the art world values diversity and fresh perspectives, Romanian artists provide a unique voice and vision. “Today’s Romanian artists combine the rich tapestry of Romania’s past – including its folk traditions, historical upheavals, and the transitional post-communist era – with the pulse of the modern global narrative,” said Bogdan Mihai of Bogdan Foto Art, one of the founders and directors of Aripa Arte.

“Romanian contemporary art is dynamic and thought-provoking. It challenges the viewers to reflect on a range of topics from personal identity to societal change, illustrating that art has no borders,” states John Bishop of John Bishop Fine Art and another founder and director of Aripa Arte. “We are committed to promoting these artists who are not only redefining the landscape of Romanian art but are also contributing significantly to the dialogue about global contemporary art.”

The Aripa Arte Gala invites art lovers, collectors, and curators to delve into the world of Romanian art and discover the rich narratives and artistic prowess that have placed Romania as a significant contributor in the contemporary art scene. To celebrate this emergence, Aripa Arte will host a charity gala that will include examples of Romanian contemporary art for purchase. The gala will be a testament to the creativity, resilience, and spirit of the Romanian people, offering an unprecedented opportunity to engage with the art that is shaping our time.

The charity gala is March 1, 2024, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm at the 1218 Heights Blvd. Houston, TexasAripa Arte is based in Houston, Texas. The newly minted 501C-3 non-profit also educates artists in their quest to run successful entrepreneurial art businesses and fund careers.

Rosacea Awareness Month to Highlight Importance of Skin Care in Rosacea Treatment

While rosacea sufferers enjoy a wider range of therapeutic options than ever before, without proper skin care they may not get the most out of treatment, dermatologists warn. The National Rosacea Society (NRS) has designated April as Rosacea Awareness Month to educate the public on this chronic facial skin disorder estimated to affect more than 16 million Americans, and to urge those who suspect they may have it to see a dermatologist for diagnosis, treatment and guidance on gentle skin care.

“Skin care and cosmetics are an often underappreciated but important element in rosacea therapy,” said Dr. Hilary Baldwin, associate professor of dermatology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and a member of the NRS medical advisory board. “The use of gentle cleansers, moisturizers that help repair the skin moisture barrier, and sunscreens that protect against rosacea flare-ups can work to support and even augment medical therapy for the disease.”

The most common individual sign of rosacea is persistent redness on the central part of face — the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin. The redness may be accompanied by itching, burning or stinging, and sufferers may also experience bumps and pimples or develop tiny visible blood vessels on their skin. Prior to diagnosis, many rosacea sufferers may turn to skin care products and cosmetics as a way to treat or cover up these signs and symptoms, mistaking them for a sunburn or acne.

However, harsh cleansers, acne medications and even bar soap may make matters worse by irritating or drying out the skin and damaging the moisture barrier. Prolonged use of topical whitening or lightening creams may lead to a painful and disruptive condition known as steroid-induced rosacea. Meanwhile, even many gentle skin care and cosmetic products may contain ingredients that could cause a rosacea flare-up.

In an NRS survey of 1,104 rosacea patients, 82% reported that certain skin-care products and cosmetics aggravated their condition, and 70% said there were specific ingredients that irritated their skin. The most common irritants were astringent alcohol (63%), perfumes or fragrances (57%), witch hazel (31%) and menthol (30%). Around a quarter of respondents were affected by peppermint or eucalyptus oil, dyes and pigments, sulfates, and parabens or other preservatives.

“The use of skin care products and cosmetics can help minimize the appearance and effects of rosacea, but poorly selected products may make it worse,” Dr. Baldwin said. “Fortunately, there are many products today that are formulated to be suitable to sensitive, rosacea-prone skin, without ingredients that may cause flare-ups. These may be used in combination with prescription therapies and procedures that more directly address the signs and symptoms of the disease.”

The National Rosacea Society Expert Committee published updated management options for rosacea in 2019, including the use of gentle cleansers and nonocclusive moisturizers that do not irritate their skin.1 Because sun exposure may be a leading influence on the development of flushing and redness, patients are also advised to always use sunscreens, preferably mineral-based products that contain zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, because they provide physical protection rather than potentially irritating chemical protection.

The best results are achieved when patients and their doctors work together to identify appropriate therapies and monitor their progress, Dr. Baldwin added.

The NRS recently launched a new Seal of Acceptance program to identify skin care and cosmetic products that may be suitable for people who suffer from rosacea. More information about the Seal and a directory of accepted products may be found online at rosacea.org/seal-of-acceptance.

During Rosacea Awareness Month and throughout the year, the NRS will conduct public education activities to reach the many millions of rosacea sufferers who may not realize they have a medical condition that can be treated, emphasizing the warning signs and urging those who suspect they may have rosacea to see a dermatologist. Bulk quantities of educational materials are available to health professionals for their patients through the NRS website at rosacea.org or by writing the National Rosacea Society, 4619 N. Ravenswood Ave, Suite 103, Chicago, IL 60640; calling the NRS toll free at 1-888-NO BLUSH; or via e-mail at info@rosacea.org. Those interested in spreading awareness during the month of April are encouraged to visit the official Rosacea Awareness Month landing page at rosacea.org/ram for ways in which they can participate.

    What is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a chronic disorder of the facial skin that is often characterized by flare-ups and remissions. According to the updated standard classification of rosacea, the presence of persistent facial redness or, less commonly, phymatous changes where the facial skin thickens is considered diagnostic of the disorder.2 Additional major signs, which often appear with the diagnostic features, include papules (bumps) and pustules (pimples), flushing, telangiectasia (visible blood vessels) and certain ocular manifestations. The presence of two or more major features independent of the diagnostic signs is also considered diagnostic of rosacea, and secondary signs and symptoms include burning or stinging, swelling and dry appearance.

    About the National Rosacea Society
The National Rosacea Society is the world’s largest organization dedicated to improving the lives of the estimated 16 million Americans who suffer from this widespread but poorly understood disorder. Its mission is to raise awareness of rosacea, provide public health information on the disorder and support medical research that may lead to improvements in its management, prevention and potential cure. More information may be found at rosacea.org.
