Event LOVE: 3rd Edition Bimod 228 Fashion Show

On Saturday night, myself and around 3,000 other people gathered in the garden of Hotel Mercure-Sarakawa (Lome, Togo), for the 3rd Edition of the Bimod 228 Fashion Show. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but once I knew that Vlisco was a sponsor, and would also be showing their latest pieces, I HAD TO GO.

It was soooo hot and soooo humid but I was too excited about the show to even care that we were about to watch 9 designers show their collections outside where the mosquitos were going to town on my legs and arms, despite dousing myself with inspect repellant before going to the show… but I digress.

Like I was saying I was very excited that Vlisco would be showing their newest collection, but surprisingly enough, it wasn’t even Vilisco’s collection that blew me away; instead, I was super, SUPER impressed by the collections of the other 9 African designers.

Here are a some of my favourite pieces!

The designers: Cesar Vodis, Christelle Mensah- Da Silveira, Akoko Folibey-Sebio, Francoise Adjanke, Boris Wellington, Sessi Edi, Elloi Sessou, Nadir Tati and Ibronke Oluwaseyi Asepo.

Congratulations to all the designers on a job well done, and to Blandine Sambiani-Bagnah for putting on an excellent show, and especially for supporting local African designers 🙂

    peace and love

    Filigree Body Lotion @Thymes

‘Thymes’ have a great variety of scents in their collection of fragrances and bath and body products. Recently I have been trying out the Filigree Body Lotion. The Filigree collection is a special edition brought back from 2009 due to the large quantity of requests.  Scented with rich amber, juniper berry, cedarwood and neroli, it is not something I would usually chose, but I was pleasantly surprised. Made to enhance and harmonize with ones own individual natural scent, it was interesting to see how differently it smelt on mine and my friends skin! On me the lotion seemed to have a less spicy aroma, whereas my flatmate smelt not dissimilar to ginger. Additionally it moisturised my skin fairly well, leaving me feeling fresh and soft.

Back by popular demand, this limited-edition moisturizer is luxuriously effective. Restores natural moisture balance to help skin look and feel its best. Enriched with conditioning shea butter, primrose and sweet almond oils and replenishing white willow bark. Leaves the unforgettable fragrance of Filigree: clean, lovely and enchanting.

Packaged in a simple and elegant white and silver box and priced at $25.00/Qty, I would consider this a perfect and appropriate gift for the holidays.

Prices start $59 for the base collection and customization and run through $69 for a custom built monogrammed cap. “Baseball caps are a must-have for a man’s wardrobe, but lately seem to be flat brimmed or with a sports team logo. Gents aims to fill this niche by providing luxury, curved brim caps that one can custom build to fit their personal style and wear in a more upscale manor. Made of the finest fabrications, these caps exude a minimal and clean aesthetic that is still masculine and fashion- forward,” founder Josh Reed. The Gents ad campaign is inspired by the classic Helmet Newton sensual images. The campaign stars internationally renowned male models Adam Senn, Chad White, Kevin Sampaio, introduces Melissa Bolona and was photographed by famed fashion photographer, Yu Tsai, best know for his work with Apple, Emporio Armani, Guess and Neiman Marcus. The Gents 2013 advertising campaign captures classic, provocative and powerful images which communicate the masculine, sophisticated and luxurious brand ethos beyond the initial product offering of upscale caps. Gents is a fashion lifestyle brand with aspirational branding approach. Gents will launch a 360 marketing campaign beginning in November with ads appearing in publications such as GQ, Playboy, Details, V Man and Men’s Health. In addition to the campaign GENTS will place billboards in Los Angeles and New York City as well as a direct mail program.

Based in Los Angeles and New York City, Gents will launch in retailers nationwide and an e- commerce site at www.gentsco.com in November 2012.

Sad I missed the #NewEraIntroducing Project event! @new_era_TOR

I feel like majority of the awesome events happen when I’m traveling! Last night New Era introduced Toronto to the “creative minds of tomorrow” through a unique gallery experience, showcasing up-and-coming talent from across North America. I wasn’t able to go, but Twitter was buzzing with tweets about all the amazing New Era 59FIFTY caps!

A little about the New Era Introducing Project.

New Era Introducing is a global creative project that was launched by the brand’s EMA branch, and aims to give unique, up-and-coming talent an opportunity to make their own artistic statement using a blank New Era 59FIFTY fitted cap as their canvas. The top 100 artists were given a blank New Era 59FIFTY cap and asked to transform it into a distinctive work of art and capture the creative process behind their design,  detailing it’s birth, creation, experience and influences.

Here are some of my favourites from the exhibit!
