Get Cracking with Dr P @Chiropractic_NY

I went to a chiropractor for the first time ever! Even with a healthy and holistic approach to life, I never ever thought that this was something I needed. But after learning about Dr Peterson and what they do at his clinic, I was intrigued to check it out.

Before Monday, I really had no experience with chiropractors (unless you count the one who gave me his number on the 1 train last spring). If you have never been adjusted, like me – I highly recommend that you go and get it done! You will live, walk and sleep better. I promise.

Dr Peterson is a New York based chiropractor who is knowledgeable, approachable and really great at what he does. When I arrived, he asked how I was feeling from head to toe as well as some history of my health (physical, mental and spiritual). The environment was really relaxed and the adjustments were fast and effective. He had a magical chair and more so, a magical touch!

He explained to me using the bone model on how my spine is inclined to the right (being right handed)

There were things Dr P told me about my rotator cuff and misaligned hips were things that I never knew. He was able to see from examining my ankles that the small bones on the left was not sitting right and was pulling everything else out of place. My ankle was killing for the last few weeks but now it feels fine! He also told me about the importance of posture, over working my right side and how to use a tennis ball to loosen these knots on my upper right back too!

While there is no cure for the common cold to be found in a crockpot or even the drugstore aisle, New York City based board certified chiropractor Dr. Louis Peterson says relief can be found at the chiropractor’s office.

“One of the most common questions I get is whether or not a patient should come in when they’re under the weather. The answer is always yes,” Dr. Peterson states. “A well known study published in Chiropractic and Manual Therapies showed that just a single chiropractic adjustment has a positive effect on the immune system. I’ve seen the duration of a cold shorten when a patient undergoes chiropractic treatment. If a patient is usually sick for seven days, having a chiropractic treatment will reduce the time they spend sick to about four days.”

Dr. P goes on to explain that the secret of chiropractic’s ability to cure the common cold is all in the nervous system.

“The basic philosophy of chiropractic is that the body is capable of healing itself and when the body is in poor alignment, the nervous system cannot function properly. In restoring the nervous system to optimal performance, the body is able to heal itself more efficiently. You’ll even see a boost of white blood cell count following treatment.”

    Make a Statement This Fall

Fall will soon be in full swing and while spending time at the pool may not be the place to be — or the beach if you happen to be lucky enough to live near the coast, it’s clear that the summery, bold, colorful accessories are still in. Try adding some of these great pieces to your fall wardrobe.

    Neon Colors

Against the backdrop of a sexy black dress or a flowing cocktail dress, neon colors will make your accessories pop. Bright shoes have always been a safe bet, but consider adding a flashy purse or several 90s-style friendship bracelets. If it’s bright and glitters, it’s even better.

    Cuff Bracelets

Instead of showing off your slender wrists, this fall is all about stacking on the big, glitzy cuff bracelets. Try several metal cuffs or cuffs that show off a wide range of colors. If cuffs aren’t your thing, another option is to pile on the bangles. More is almost always better, and making a statement with your bracelets is an easy way to get noticed this autumn.

    Big Rings

When you’re dressing up your wrists, don’t forget about your fingers, too. Big, bold statement rings are also in this fall. Get an assortment of rings in several sizes to ensure that you can always find one that will fit, given that your fingers may swell when dancing in the club.

    Layers of Necklaces

Another big trend this fall is layered necklaces. With plunging necklines, you have plenty of space to make a statement. Of course, you can also accomplish this with a big beaded necklace with strands of several different lengths, or you can just make your own layers by mixing and matching bold necklaces.

You can wear more than one statement piece at the same time, and mixing and matching is never a bad thing. Try to keep most of your accessories in bright colors and metallic hues, especially gold, to bring life to your outfits. This fall, big, bold accessories are the hottest trend!

What Kind of Pet Parent Are You?

“You can tell a lot about a person by the type of pet they have,” says Kristen Levin, a pet lifestyle expert and author of Pampered Pets on a Budget. Whether your cat has her own Facebook page or your dog is a regular on Dog-Shaming.com, it’s likely your pet has pawed its way into your heart — and the hearts of your friends and family — and you couldn’t imagine life any other way.

Take the following quiz to figure out what type of pet parent you are, and then explore the suggested pet care options that best suit both of your needs.

Pet Quiz! From pageant to hipster, what type of pet parent are you?: Find out on CARE.com

    No surprise here

You probably hate the word “hipster” and why wouldn’t you? Your unique taste and style aren’t based on current trends, but actual interests. And the fact that it’s now trendy to be hip is pretty annoying. But you and your pet can shake it off. You both have a pretty aloof and independent vibe, so nothing bothers you too much. Your up-and-coming trendy urban area has lots of animals, parks and coffee shops with dog treats at the counter. But you actually lived there before it was cool. You love being outdoors and have contemplated living in Boulder or Portland, somewhere you can ride your bike everywhere and bring your pet to lunch.

For Dog Owners: You love being outside with your hound, and are always researching new pup-friendly restaurants, cafes and parks.
