Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara Review

Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara

Hi all! I picked up a tube of @SmashboxArtists’ Full Exposure Mascara in my FIDM class a few weeks ago. We had an amazing guest speaker come into one of my classes and she brought us FIDM beauties some goodies and I just so happened to have picked up this mascara (my absolute favorite kind of beauty product)!

I must say the tube is pretty big compared to most mascaras. I guess I shouldn’t have been so surprised at how big the wand was too haha 🙂 I’ll start off with my likes of this mascara… I like the formula for the most part. It’s got little fibers in it which give my lashes amazing length. One thing I noticed and I really liked was that unlike most other fiber mascaras, this one was overwhelmingly filled with fibers. A lot of the time, for me, the fibers don’t lay on my lashes length-wise and they end up sticking out in all different directions making my lashes stick together and look spidery. The fibers gave my lashes just the right amount of length even after a few coats.

The formula itself though, I’m not the biggest fan of. It’s really great at lengthening and fattening up my lashes. I definitely cannot complain about that but it does make my lashes a bit stiff. Perhaps this is what curls my lashes so well? Perhaps its what keeps them curled so well from morning to night? I’m not sure but it doesn’t really allow for much movement after it dries. Maybe it’s just my bad habit for touching my lashes throughout the day (pushing them upwards to give the curl a bit of a boost). BUT adding on to the somewhat dry factor, even though it is somewhat dry, it DOES NOT flake. I repeat DOES NOT flake. BIG plus for me. I think this would be an awesome mascara for those with stick straight lashes because it seems to hold curls more since it isn’t such a soft formula. Not something I can guaruntee since my lashes curl as I apply mascara on them but I’d love for you guys to try it out and let me know if it works better than just using waterproof mascara 🙂

Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara WandThe wand compared to the size of a business card…

Now comes my big downfall of this mascara… the brush itself is HUGE. I wanna say this is one of the biggest brush I have ever seen actually haha. Having a flatter, eye area and a smaller one, this really creates an issue for me. Luckily I almost always use an index card when I put on my mascara in the morning since I”m always in a rush to get to work. The mascara (if I didn’t use an eyelid shield) would get all over my eyelids and would end up ruining my makeup. It’s kind of heartbreaking because I have grown to really like this mascara but the wand is just so hard to maneuver around my eye shape. Bristles on the brush itself are awesome though… thick and full.

The Smashbox Full Exposure definitely delivers on the lengthening and volumizing claims they make and really does make my lashes look absolutely amazing. I will say it took me a few uses to get used to it and to use up enough product to get it to the consistency I like it to be at so when you first purchase it, make sure you give it a few days before you decide if you like it or not (just like you should with any new mascara you try). Don’t be discouraged by the size of the brush or by the way I’m describing my experience to you because it may be different for you. Who knows… maybe you’ll like the formula so much that you won’t mind shielding your eyelids when applying it 🙂

You can purchase this mascara on the Smashbox website or at Sephora for $19. Great price if you ask me for a 0.38 fluid ounce tube of prestige brand mascara.

xo, June 🙂
