    HCB #40: Veggie Macaroni Bake

I’m not sure if I’ve ever had pasta and eggplant together, but I was willing to try it, and LOVED it!
I pre-baked the eggplant with some olive oil, garlic, oregano and some parm! YUM (used it as a base for my mac’ bake)

FYI: Eggplant is an excellent source of dietary fiber. Very good source of vitamins B1, B6 and potassium. Good source of copper, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, niacin, and folic acid. Nasunin, an anthocyanin from eggplant peels, is a potent antioxidant and free-radical scavenger, and has protective activity against lipid peroxidation.= WINNNER

I blanched the veggies first. Then cooked them lightly in butter, garlic, and onions with a touch of oregano before assembly.
I used a bechamel sauce, that I infused with garlic, onion and bayleaf… Parmesan, provolone and mozzarella were my cheeses of choice.
bake it till it’s golden delicious!
My appetite might suck right now, but this will last me a couple days so I’m not worried.
    Happy Cooking lovies!

    A Fashion Evolution has Begun

    Chanel Fall/Winter 2010 campaign
This morning I felt the need to comment on the situation of fashion as it stands right now… and the incredible places fashion is going! Many probably know by now, I am obsessed with FT; I watch it online, on the weekend… whenever I can catch it, I’m watching and I can’t help but notice how the timeline of fashion appears to be going backwards. Designers are bringing back the most evolutionary of fashion eras… I CAN HARDLY CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT!
Speaking from my own adult fashion timeline, I can safely go back to the year 2000, I remember getting ready to go to which-ever big party was going on that night and coming upstairs to step into my shoes and walk out the door. This was never done without my Mum analyzing my ensemble and approaching me with the same reoccurring comments, aside from her asking me where the rest of my outfit is (in typical Mum fashion), she always felt the need to tell me how similar my outfit was to those she used to wear when she was”younger”. May it have been a high waisted skirt or eighties balloon pants, always paired with pointy leather heels, it relentlessly managed to bring her back.
Well, looking at fashion now; where it’s been and where its quickly headed makes me think back to a place I’ve never been. The style at the beginning of my adult life was reminiscent of the 80’s and 90’s, now adays… style has evolved for us in a backward motion. The Victorian Era has seemingly been creeping up on us for some time now; lace up boots, harem trousers, corsets, long train dresses, buckles… silk, lace, linen… and we’ve embraced it from the jump. Looking at the runways for major fashion houses’ fall/winter 2010, we are seeing undeniable references; Dior, Betsey Johnson, Zac Posen, Chanel, Christian Siriano and my fav this coming year, Alexander McQueen.

    Betsey Johnson

    Zac Posen

    Dior

    Alexander McQueen

Peep some previews of what I mean, leave a comment… I am in-love with what’s to come, all I can think is “Everyday could be a new costume!!!”. Fashion is elemental as it is an expression of creativity, art, history, passion, and worldliness, while still being a extremely delicate craft… Excited? Intimidated? How do u feel? xo

    Ayce Kavale

Ayce Kavale is a new and emerging artist on the rise. He is also my lil brother!

The 19-year old Rapper, Producer, Writer and recently turned Actor has been writing his music since the age of 5 (YES 5!). I remember it like it was yesterday, him writing and rapping his rhymes..lol! The most memorable song from his childhood is “Lil DJ” it was the cutest little song. It was very catchy with good rhymes. That song is still in my head until this very day, like most of his recent songs. Now look at him, I’m glad to see your still doing what you love to do.

He has also added acting to his resume as well (following in my footsteps, of course). He was seen last summer performing in “Diss” a play that shows the worst-case scenarios from being involved in gangs. What can I say, we come from a family of talented performers.

My advice to you lil brother (and others) from one artist to the next. Perseverance is the key to making progress towards your
goals/dreams. Keep doing you and never forget who you are as an artist.

Take a look at his first video release. Look At Me

Art of Fashion 2010 La Belle Epoque

It was an incredible time last year and I was so lucky to host the event for with FGI Toronto and the team at Paradigm in 2009.  AOF was a part of Nuit Blanche so lots of people came out to the Distillery to check it out.
If you are a designer or know of someone who needs great exposure and a little bit of friendly competition, make sure you let them know!  Here are some photos from last year.  www.ArtOfFashion.org
